Boba Fett helmet build, ongoing project.

Re: pepafett (boba fett helmet pepakura attempt) Ventilating

long work there, and ive seen the cheek done a few times........... bit late now but i use milliput if i need to shape - a 2 part putty and when its dry it sets rock hard and is sandable. but the beauty of milliput is that you can shape it and if you wet your fingers and shape it you can smooth it out, very much like working with clay but its an epoxy so sticks to anything

i know its a bit late now but for the future use milliput if you need some shaping done - you have a good hour before things start the hardening process and after 14hrs or so it sets rock hard. it will certainly allow you to mold and shape the cheek first time, then add the filler or some more milliput to finish the bits off - i pay 2.50 a box for mine altho hobbycraft charge around 5 quid :(

good to see it IS taking shape now tho - the hard graft is starting to pay off

i've got some milliput but still yet to understand the material so dont use it all that much and i guess i just like to make work hard for myself solely using standard filler

think i'll be working with something a bit easier now, wood/MDF to make the ears so that should be a nice change of pace.

who45 - thanks for the comments and suggests

This is just coming together amazingly well! I was just going to buy a Fett but this looks much more fun! You're an inspiration Rosskow

thats awfuly nice of you to say so Darth Crucius, thank you

i would definitely recommend building your own instead of buying one. providing you have the (small amount of) money and (large amount of) time necessary its much more rewarding than just spending your money.

mine may not be screen accurate, or even close but im really proud of it so far.

anyone one wondering, work has had to stop because i need to work on the vent piece for the back, making it out wood but i dont have the tools/materials where i am right now so im left to just plan what i'll be doing.

small update this last pictures, i have finished off the edging of the helm around the bottom so thats roughly done. objectives, make vent, install, make ears, install then i think i'll have to buy my range finder, 3 jobs to do but will undoubtedly take a long time, specially since i've had get a christmas job that'll eat up my time.

i dont half blab

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt)

Well man your thread is one I regularly watch for updates on now. Your work is definitely inspiring... I am now starting my first project... a Magneto helmet. I'm still on the pep stages but I will be excited to actually start building it up and getting it nice and smooth like you have there.

Any recommendations on sand paper grades for the sanding? I just picked up a Black and Decker Mouse (small hand sander) for when I get to that stage.

Looking forward to seeing more updates... I might attempt this as my second project.

Also any idea where or what you are going to do for the visor?

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt)

Nice helmet dude! Comes along nicely. I'm a little jealous to be frank.

when im looking at my helmet as it is now i sometimes see it as a magneto helm, because of the cut out, T shape and the the generally-ish shape of it

mouse sander, solid investment, i use 60 grade for rough shaping and gettin away any nasty bits and then 120 grade getting desired curves, corners, smoothness and finer details but you'll easily figure what is best for you as you progress

i think i'll be having to buy my visor from the kind people at bob makers, since i want a black visor, im not sure of any other alternative

Finish the lid, Finish the lid, Finish the lid, :lol!

i will, im trying, i want to, but thanks for the encouraging words :)

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt)

Thanks for the info. I picked up a mixed pack so I will be definitely be playing around to find what works best.

Haha yea it does look a good bit like a magneto helmet. You could always make a magneto custom fett version

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt)

This is coming along very nicely. I did some work on mine yesterday. Thanks for the continued inspiration!

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt)

Great thread. I have my first layer of resin on my pep Fett helmet. This thread has given me the modivation and how to to finish this thing off. Hope mine turns out half as good as yours did.

nice idea, but i dont have the creativity necessary for that

might be able to get some work done on helm this coming weekend, progress is non-existent at the moment though due to circumstances sadly :(

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt)

Just rereading through your thread. I'm on the Bondo/Sanding stage of my Magneto helmet and it is a ***** and a half to try and get the shape right.

It's sort of a relief to see that it can be done with a lot of hard work. For the past day or so I have felt like I haven't made any progress but it appears to be slow and steady.

i can do that, spending lots of time over 2 day on it, but think there is no difference, you'll notice it though over time

Re: pepafett (SW boba fett helmet pepakura attempt) [waiting out the cold winter weat

Hey man very nice helmet, I'm new to the forums and I just discovered this method of crafting. I would offer a suggestion though, I saw that you were asking about a visor, i followed the link provided by someone else and if you are as "thrifty" as I am that's a bit pricey. I am planning my helmet out right now and I had decided to get a cheap safety visor from Home Depot, and then just tint it with automotive tint. Good luck with the rest of your build, anxious to see how another person like me fares!

Re: Boba fett helmet WIP (first build) NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE

need some help sourcing some bits for my helmet.

i didn't want to post on my thread with until i had actually made some progress, which im trying to do after taking such a long break.

im in need of a visor, stalk and ranger finder, and the ear cap to pivot the stalk/ranger finder on as i have no idea how i would make them myself. i've been google-ing and looking through threads but im still undecided in where and what to get.

so to sum up i need a visor, ranger finder, stalk and a ear cap to pivot it.

help is much needed and appreciated.

very quick edit: if anyone has what i need them selves they are willing to sell i may be interested, so PM's are more than welcome.

Re: Boba fett helmet WIP (first build) NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE

i'll just give my request a bump,

anyone else have any places or people they could point me towards?
if you know someone who could help me, please point them in my direction.

thank you

Re: Boba fett helmet WIP (first build) NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE

As for the visor - you could use some acrylic sheet & bend it using heat (very carefully).

Isn't there a pep for the view finder? There was one with the file I downloaded.

The stalk - I presume you mean the bar between the helmet & viewfinder. I use some ali bar (B&Q). If you find it a little weak you could use steel - a bit heavier, but a lot stronger.

Keep up the good work.

Are you looking forward to all the painting?

Re: Boba fett helmet WIP (first build) NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE

Just read through the thread mate, absolute stunning work. I take it you know about TDH?

As long as you are not planning on casting the ear pieces I would give Bobbyfettuk a shout. He can hook you up with everything you need. Im in the middle of doing some work for him and the castings on them are fantastic.

Re: Boba fett helmet WIP (first build) NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE

Yes , TDH is the place to go to buy for your Fett-ish.

The helmet looks great, but too much work for me and my lack of skill. I just skimmed throught the posts, looking at the pics. Are you planning on doing a full costume?

As for the visor, get a shade 3 welding visor. One of those flexible, flipup, full face jobs.

Re: Boba fett helmet WIP (first build) NEED SOME HELP, PLEASE

bought some ear caps and visor online so should arrive in about a week, for anyone still vaguely following this build.

need get this to a semi-finish state by april 1st (no thats not a bad april fools joke), i'll either do it or die trying.
