Bladerunner question

The test measures physiological responses to the questions. The actual answers given are almost irrelevant. Just by her hearing the question, and (if she were human) involuntarily reacting, Deckard has the data, and could move on to the next question (or end the test).
/thread win.

Couldn't agree more NEX...

...but Holden doesn't really seem to suspect anything at all before he gets ventilated.

You would think Holden would have noticed that beeping indicator going off on the VK machine right after Leon say's:
"Never seen a Tortise before"...wait a minute...he did...
which would be why he had his blaster in his hand when he went through the wall.
Go watch the movie a few more times genious, you might actually come up with an original thought!:unsure

Buddy...

We don't know each other- so why all the hostility? Just because I mentioned the snake skin stuff? Really?

Gotta love the internet.

Helpful fact # 132.

It's spelled ...GENIUS.

Especially considering the pejorative context in which you used it, spelling it correctly is...well...kinda' important...ya' know?

In the VK test, the questions often had more than one thing in them to react to. The idea was to see if the suspect being tested would react only to the obvious things, or unequally with the less obvious. In the script (and novel) Rachael reacted more to the raw oysters, than the boiled dog. Replicants probably could to some degree fake their reactions, and this probably was supposed to be a way to trick them, but In PKD's mind he may have been trying to point out how human beings also become insensitive, and only react to things that are of lesser impact and horror, while shielding ourselves from real horrors, or things that make us question our morality.

The breaking up of the questions and overlaying them was a kind of simple way of showing the passing of time through editing. Rachael probably did not answer the last question, partially because it wasn't really a question, or maybe he already had his answer before he got to the question part.

Not sure if this will get it back on track or not.

how does one get their hands on what one would call the "ultimate version" of blade runner? i only have the single disk directors cut, and even that seems like its not totally the whole story.

You should pic up the five disk special edition if you can find it...I'm sure they still have some set's at Amazon.

n0x23---Thanks for the spelling correction!
Have you ever looked up the word "irony"?
(that was "sarcasm" if your wondering...)

Kevin, I think Mutant is just trying to provoke an emotional response in an effort to determine if you're human or replicant - nothing personal! :lol

As for being critical of and correcting members' spelling and punctuation, I've known some incredibly brilliant and/or creative people who have mild degrees of dyslexia, speech impediment, hearing or sight loss, or other learning or sensory disabilities. Sometimes I wonder if those very disabilities lead to compensation in other areas, like critical thinking, aesthetics, empathy, etc. So please let's ease up on critiquing spelling and return to critiquing ideas. :thumbsup

For the record, I'd trade my left nut for 25% of Mutant's creativity and prop-making talent (I looked up some of his threads and posts).

I knew about Holden having his blaster out as it can be clearly seen when Leon shoots him the second time- however I didn't realize Holden was essentially pulling the same move of having it under the table just as Leon had his weapon when he asks the Mother question.

All this time I figured that Holden had managed to draw his weapon between the times he was shot.

The script is the script... But you'd figure if Holden knew... why wouldn't he retire Leon right there?

"You might be interested to know that Ridley Scott shot so much EXTRA footage that the hard-core fans were able to use it to put together a whole alternate version of the film...pretty cool...I've seen that too."

Nope. Charlie, while a huge Blade Runner fan, was working professionally for Scott/the studio in making the BR dvds when he edited the thing you are talking about. He assembled the 45 minute "alternate version" of the film as a brilliant way to showcase the extra footage shot during production, after finding the alternate voice over audio. Not a fan effort at all.

Kind of (and not really) like the "Further Adventures of Ron Burgundy" from the 2 disc Anchorman set. They shot so much extra footage with improv and unused plot threads that they assembled a "side story" feature length film.

The only thing you wont get in the 4 disc DVD set is the workprint disc, if you can't find the 5 disc box set. Still on ebay, amazon, and craigslist all the time. The Blueray set that isn't the 2 disc Final cut version is also complete. Just no toys or briefcase.

The Fan cut ME is probably talking about is most likely a Japanese Fan edit called the White Dragon Cut, and uses as much of the edited material directly from the DVD set extras as they could use, and also tried to recreate some scenes with footage from other movies, that were never shot. It is long and and kind of silly, but for those that crave as much explanation and info as possible it can alter your perception of the the story and the movie.

In some of the cut scenes, there is a famous scene of Holden in the hospital on life support explaining to Deckard that he suspected Leon was a replicant, but it wasn't as clear cut as it used to be, and that is why Leon "got the drop" on him. He also tells Deckard, "They are almost us."

bad news, its region 2. and coming from europe.

should i be worrying? planning on dumping this at movie stop?

Ugh, for real? I find all fan edits so far that I've tried to watch to to be so tedious... but hey, if people like 'em , have at it.

I just watched it on youtube. Thanks! :thumbsup

Even though the Hospital scene(s) as shot I don't think would have worked, a slightly reworked version I feel would have helped establish Rick's character better, and made him more sympathetic. I also love the second scene with Bryant and Gaff spying on them and commenting on "metaphysics". This along with an actual snake dance scene would have made this movie a bit more popular to begin with I think ;)

Andy

I wouldn't have minded watching her take the pleasures from the serpent that once corrupted man. :lol

Bryant tells Deckard the Nexus 6 replicants have a built-in fail-safe, a 4-year lifespan. Later, Tyrell tells Batty he was made as well as they could make him. Does Bryant incorrectly describe the 4-year lifespan as built-in, or is Tyrell just lying to Batty in attempt to save himself?
