Limited Run BLADE RUNNER 2049: Officer K (Ryan Gosling) Jacket/Coat - NOW SELLING

Hey all - received Zlurpo's coat today (from first order) and it's solid work. True to the jacket-on-film color predicament, I was surprised by the color in person after seeing so many pictures people have been posting of their coats. Although now (of course), when I look at those photos, I see a different color. However, after having seen the actual coat in person at the arc light display, I can safely say that it's pretty spot on (two photos I took of actual coat attached).

If I had to choose a color to use to describe the coat, I'd say a light charcoal with faint sheen of perhaps psychologically induced dark greens/blues. The fur is great; even the color doesn't really bother me. It doesn't seem orange to me, though I wouldn't be shocked to hear someone choose that descriptor. I'm going to experiment with darkening it as seen in Zlurpo's tutorial. I also think that darkening process will pat down the fur a bit to look a bit closer to how weathered the gos' is in the film - but i definitely think the fur is the right kind of fur.

I ordered a small over a medium, which I knew I took a gamble on (5'9", 155lb-ish), but wasn't sure given the sizing chart. I didn't submit custom measurements. Call it laziness and lack of familiarity with doing that. Still, it fits pretty good - but definitely a bit snug if I were to wear layers underneath. The magnets allow it to close without any struggle however, and they're really effective. If I had to do it over again, I'd order a medium in preparation for my inevitable beer gut that I can't seem to stop from forming and for a bit more room for the cowl/face guard. I didn't order the printing on the back FYI, though wish I had from the report back from others on how Zlurpo nailed the subtlety on that - but I didn't want to take a chance.

It's very comfy, the lining is great, the pockets are great, and its pretty cozy.

I adjusted the exposure on 2 of these photos cause they were slightly dark, and attached some photos with some green and blue objects. The couch is a charcoal grey and I turned on some whiter fluorescent lights I have in my office to try and capture its most commonly perceived color. Oh, I'm also wearing pants I'd consider to be extremely close in color to K's. Not so much the white adidas.

Overall, the coat is awesome, very pleased with the purchase. Would highly recommend. Especially looking forward to sporting this coat at burning man.

edit: sorry - not sure why some of the photos uploaded sideways, but you get the picture.

edit2: also thanks Zlurpo for sending a small piece of extra coat fabric - gonna experiment with some coating techniques to get a bit of a waxed shine.

Holy cow I've had half a dozen people show me several dozen pics of the coat at the Arclight, and that is by far the darkest the fur has ever looked. I love those three pics of the cloth on your thigh, they really help highlight how much lighting makes a difference.

I’m confident about my measurements, but in case it’s a bit off, do you think it would be easy to have it tailored?

Just wanted to say after I've been lurking, Zlurpo the jacket came out amazing :thumbsup

excellent work as always, sir.

Latest update on the zlurpo jacket. As stated above , the jacket was received last night and upon picking up the box I was concerned. The box felt very light, I have other knee length jackets of a waxed canvas nature and they have a “hefty” feel to them. I cracked open the box, and it was folded nicely and sealed in a plastic protective sleeve. I proceeded to rip it open and try it on. *disclaimer* I opted for the custom sized jacket with the lettering. Zlurpo sends you a link to input your measurements, upon doing so, I adding a 1/2 inch here and a 1/2 inch there just for fudge factors. I am glad I did, it fits like a glove. It’s a little tight in the shoulders (which I’m fine with)and the sleeve length is screen accurate but for my liking, I would have liked another inch on the sleeves. The fit is slim to snug, which makes the lines of the jacket really stand out, I don’t forcast wearing anything else under the jacket thicker than the “K” sweater. I give the overall construction an B+. As far screen accuracy (from what we’ve all seen) I give it a B+. My only complaint with the coat (besides the fur, which I’ll get into later) is the collar, I feel it’s an inch to short in height and maybe an 1 1/2 skinny in the circumference. The way it looks in photos when it’s up, it falls just above the tip of the nose, Z’s jacket falls right below the tip of the nose (I know everyone has a different neck length) and when buckled closed and magnets engaged, its snug to the face. We’ve all seen the photo of K with the collar up and there’s a noticeable gap between him and the cowl. And once the collar is down and folded the magents take over which hold sufficiently, still I feel the folded collar should fall right below the ear. If I could fix anything it would be the collar, it seems an easy fix if zlurpo would re-do the collar, I’d gladly pay for a replacement and I could switch them out myself. (Zlurpo, I’ve got the cash). As soon as I got it home the first thing I did to it was throw it in the washer, cold cycle and hang dry. It immediately took on a very cool wrinkle to it which relaxes as you where it (I’ve been wearing it all day). Only issue I’ve found is the printing on the back has worn a bit at the bottom, nothing major, it does add to the weathering look. I do plan on laminating it, and with the sample fabric he sent, I’ll play with straight up waxing and painting it WITHOUT acrylic medium, the medium adds a bit of “Crunch” to the fabric and I don’t need to sound like a piece of plastic walking the streets of NYC. I have a siliconized method that works on a small scale, we’ll see how it works.

It's unusual because I only added 1cm in the chest and biceps and my jacket has loads of room in it. I'd say the fitting was perfect, however my complaint about the collar/faceguard is the same as yours. It is far too tight around the face.

Weight is good I feel. Feels sturdy and substantial but not restrictive.

Please keep us updated on your efforts with the laminating. I'm going to attempt this soon myself.

The weight is good ... it’s deceiving at first .... if you’re using a mobile device, the pics may not load

Sideways, but very much visible.

Ed: Oh yeah, a small question for anyone with the coat in hand. I heard the inner pocket is a good depth, what is the width/height (you get what I mean) of the opening?

Operation “no return” has commenced.... I’ve started the lamination process. I did a lot of color tests with zlurpo’s sample fabric... and here’s what I settled on.

Thanks for taking the risk so that we may have a more screen-accurate jacket!!! You are a God among men!

Also, do you have the lettering on the back of your coat? If so, how are you going to paint around it?

The color is a bit lighter then expected, however I’m happy with the results, and the sheen is quite nice.i do have lettering on the back, it will be a fine brush and some patience
