Black series XWing Pilot helmet up for pre-order on Amazon

For people in the UK - Amazon Warehouse keeps having these crop up at either £75 or £79 depending on condition (I assume they're returns or have some sort of damage to packaging or product). They're also doing and additional 20% off with free shipping (I think that's part of their Black Friday sales) which brings these down to £59-£62 each!

I had a voucher from my last birthday, so kinda splashed out and bought a few! Will see what sort of condition they turn up in, but since I'd customise them it doesn't matter so much to me. I thought this is a pretty good deal for anyone who wants one and is happy to keep their eyes peeled for when they come in stock.

Nothing below £98 at the moment and I can't see the additional 20% off with free shipping, Where is that shown?

Yeah you have to look at the other options and sometimes it comes up with Amazon warehouse. Once you put it in the cart and go to checkout the 20% only comes on the last screen before you confirm payment. I always selected "free shipping", but then a minimal shipping charge still appears, but then seems to get taken off again. Either way, see screen shot below for the final order price - £62.72 in total:

...and another that was slightly cheaper (worse condition I guess) on which I used my voucher

I can repaint one for you

Hey TK - I was gonna have a go at painting mine, but since you've done it already I was hoping you could answer a couple of questions before I get stuck in and break anything!

Is the rubber trim around the edge removeable and reattachable, or if you pull it off is it never going to go back on again (so better to mask it)?

Is there any danger of gumming up the cheek button with spray paint, and if so does it need to be coated separately?

Is there any way to remove the visor without breaking it? It looks pretty stuck in there to me.

Thanks!

Rubber trim is clipped in between the interior shell and the outer shell. Unscrewing the interior allows to get it out. Visor is clipped onto the interior, too but extracting it completely seems to be a puzzle

As already mentioned above, removing the outer screws from the interior allows you to safely remove the trim and put it back after your paint.

As for the cheek button, as long as you are applying the paint properly, I haven’t had any issues. I’ll post pics of the button after several coats of primer and white base. I also filled it for my Dak helmet to hide it completely.

And the visor...this tricky son-of-a-gun...I’ve been just completely masking it, but the other day I was working on a commission piece and I think I found a way to remove it. If you take all the screws out and push the visor back into the helmet, that seems to put it in a position to be removed. I’ll try it today.

The base for a Wedge helmet, button still operates.

Excellent work - thanks very much!

Tk1625, Long as you're answering questions.
What did you use to take off the old paint or is it thin enough that you just primed over it?

Feel free to look at some of my other stuff here: AllGeek2Me

I sanded the whole helmet, then primed it.

Doesn’t need to be too crazy, just enough to remove any raised areas.

This is the first light coat of primer.

Ey, nice. Thanks TK.
Not sure if I'll ever get around to repainting mine, it's always a pain to do stuff like that when living in an apartment.

Target had this helmet for like $85 plus buy 2 get 1 free on Black Friday
The Buy 2 get 1 free is still available and it's down to $80 each.
Not sure when it ends, but that's about $55 each after tax so a good deal for anyone planing to paint a couple up.

EDIT: No longer available

Quick question for you TK1625 , how did you manage to get the interior trim out? I've unscrewed all the screws but the black interior is like an interlocking puzzle!

I'm trying to remove it all so I can safely paint the exterior since I'm not confident in my taping/masking skills.

Sorry, I never figured out how you completely remove the interior, just the trim. What I did to protect the interior was wrap tape around the lip of the interior that I was able to pull away. I then took newspaper and taped it to protect the remaining, uncovered interior, followed by a plastic bag taped over as much as I could of the interior, I was really worried about getting paint where I didn’t want it. Then I completely taped the visor.
