Black Series Helmets - whats next after Boba Fett

I think it's less about the helmet it's based on and more about the fact that it's still just a toy, and certain concessions had to be made to safety, function, and cost.

Not if you are going give a comparison on design. For all we know, it might be a spot on replica design wise when compared to the actual source material. You can compare quality and materials of the differences between a high end and a budget helmet, but that's about it.

I mean, he compared it with what he has. I don’t see anyone else comparing it to any real replicas so I’m happy he did it.

The only real value that video has is someone wanted to try to figure out how much work would be needed to convert a BS Obi Series Vader helmet version into a Vader A New Hope replica. But if you are going to review the helmet, you cannot say design aspects are incorrect simply because they do not match against incorrect source material. In order to come to that conclusion, you need to at least do the research, which he did not do.

The BS Vader is what it is. It's a really cool toy. Of course it can't stand up to a direct comparison to any replica version of the helmet, but that's okay. I got the first generation version, and I do regret having paid full price a little. I saw one later at Walmart for half price, and by the end some stores had them for as little as $25. I scanned the video, and I don't think the comparison is entirely unfair. Basically, if you want an uber accurate Vader helmet, this is not for you. If you want something that, for 99.9% of the world is a Vader helmet, to display or even wear and the price is not prohibitive... Go for it.

It look like Vader's stumpier cousin. Like Vader is the star and this is his assistant from his family who just needed a job. I am not being mean. I think I am sadly that guy.

What I don't understand is they did such a great job with their other helmets, Boba Fett, X wings, Stormies, why blow it so bad with Vader????????

When you compare the Hasbro Boba Fett with the utterly amazing and awesome EFX PCR Boba Fett it's a pretty amazing helmet for the price.

Why, oh why has Vader ,of all helmets, been their worst by far??????

Stormtrooper is also a bad design. Doesnt fit over a medium sized head. (size based off motorcycle helmet sizing as i'm a rider, too). thats why i ignore those repaints completely.

I think the Stormies are not as good as X wings and especially the Boba Fett line but still pretty awesome for the price. I have two. My beaten up Stormie and my spike Mando bloody Stormy.

That Vader though. Think if they did a Reveal Vader Helmet on par with their own BS Boba Fett helmet. Just wow. I would own three.

One for together. One for display in three parts, and one for Vader damaged at the end of the Obi fight.

Quoting myself from the Denuo Thread.

After getting four of the BS Stormies (and I want them to do a re-release, dammit), I can break them down and toss the unneeded crap in about ten minutes. Cutting out all the "support" and speaker mount and battery compartment takes a little longer but still quick work. Some epoxying and reinforcing later and it's just the shell -- as if one had a symmetrical Hero helmet.

Using the appearance of Vader's appearance in Obi Wan against the BS replica of it's appearance, please prove your statement.
Confusing sentence. Also, why are you going to bat so hard for this $130 prop? Why are you so angry about what is honestly a pretty fair comparison video? You okay dude?

Sorry, I was not clear. The BS Vader helmet is terrible when compared to most other Darth Vader Helmet Replicas.

Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks

Tom

Because it wasn't a fair comparison for the reasons i stated in a number of posts above. The helmet might actually be a very bad replica of the source material or a very good one. We do not know based on the fact that no one really did any research to find out. The video (and a lot of folks here) is making that assumption that all movie and series screen used helmets share the exact same design and proportions and that is not proven. So you can not compare a Obi Series helmet and compare it to a A New Hope helmet. It is like taking a Solo The Empire Strikes Back blaster and comparing it to a Solo A New Hope blaster. Different... yes.... incorrect.... no.

Okay kidding aside I do think the face of the BS Vader actually looks similar to some close up shots of Vader in the Obi series. My opinion, which is always right, sometimes, is that it looks terrible in the series as well.

The dome is too small in the show so that is one reason I think it looks bad. As a result the BS Hasbro's super tiny dome makes it look awful.

I want to see someone put the BS Vader face with a regular size dome and I think it will make a huge difference.

So you are saying that you dislike the basic look of the BS helmet simply on appearance and not because it may or may not be accurate to the prop in which it is sourced?

I was actually going to pic one up and use an old Rubies Supreme Edition dome, put a better center strip on it, and then do a damaged version from the end of the fight.

I may still do it but money be tight right now.

Nope. It looks similar like I said. Not the same. It is not a good replica of the Obi Vader helmet in my opinion. I think if that is what they were going for they did a terrible job.

Now, to this point I have been nice but you seem to just want to argue so I will say if you like it and thinks it is a good replica that is awesome.

Long live the Empire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I don't have an option or belief on accuracy because like I said, no real evidence other than opinion and a flawed logic review has been offered. It could be a god awful replica but no one has really taken the time to prove it. I just think if people are going to judge Hasbro on the product, they need to know what Hasbro was attempting to replicate in order to know how well they did.

As far as me personally, I have the high end Efx Vader LE helmet.

Now that is a sweet piece. I wish I was able to hold onto mine but I do love my PCR Vader. Miss the L.E. terribly though.

Then you do it. If you want a fair comparison, do it yourself. Stop complaining about people who have at least done SOMETHING. Star Wars Replicas has an impressive collection, a fair bit of knowledge and is typically pretty fair with his reviews. I know what your reasons are because you have not been quiet about them(to put it gently). But I don't see you contributing anything other than whinging about what someone else did.
