OK - I haven't watched Clone Wars in forever... Whats up with the welds & the greebly on the cheek?
It's weird seeing Rex's helmet "real life." I never thought those were actually welds.... I mean the armor is in-universe supposed to some sort of plastic like material.
I think since R1 the redesigned recessed stripes are here to stay. Personally I think it adds texture to the overall design and I’d imagine if the original Tk designer put painted stripes next to recessed, I imagine they would have picked recessed. I understand not messing with OT but I’m cool with improving TK design as in universe it’s a massed produced armor set. As for ANH Vader, nothing compares to the beauty in the asymmetry.Recessed tube stripes again ... *sigh*
It looked to me when I watched the Ahsoka series as if the prop makers actually got a clue and had them painted on (like they were in ROTS, in the manner of Stormtrooper helmets' tube stripes in the original trilogy).
I hope that is just a prototype and that they'll change it in the final version.
Gotta think outside the box but inside the cannon. It can always be explained. It's weird seeing Rex's helmet "real life." I never thought those were actually welds.... I mean the armor is in-universe supposed to some sort of plastic like material.
I agree. Plus, I cannot confirm this but I am guessing since this is based off the Ahsoka live action appearance, the actual helmet had these grooves.I think since R1 the redesigned recessed stripes are here to stay. This shot is what I was referring to. This looks painted on to me.I agree. Plus, I cannot confirm this but I am guessing since this is based off the Ahsoka live action appearance, the actual helmet had these grooves.
I made my remarks based on my personal preference and opinion and a speculation as to why Hasbro made the design choices they did. I stand by my remarks because at no point did I try to state anything as fact and I made it clear as to what lack of information I had on the topic. This shot is what I was referring to. This looks painted on to me.
1. The specular highlight on top of the tube stripes, as if it was an unbroken surface.
2. The grooves wouldn't be this visible from the front if they had been recessed. Compare with the Black Series prototype in the video, where you see only white from this angle.

And BTW, I think the same helmet's tube stripes were made to look painted-on in the Clone Wars series also.
As the regular helmets in ROTS, there was simulated paint chipping, with weathering layered on top.
