Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome Colonial Sidearms

@greylocke

Here's the story behind the holsters. First, technically, the vacuum formed holsters for BSG were made for the mini series guns.... which are not as wide as the season 1 guns that followed. So, that's the reason why many of the vacuum formed holsters started to split/crack at the seems...... they were not made for the wider Season 1 shells.

Now, there are some replica holsters out there and those are based on Matt's replica season 1. His gun is larger than the hero season 1 or my guns. If you did get one of his hosters, you would not have any issues to worry about. At least I don't think you would. I had one of those holsters in my hands and the hero guns fit in it very loose. You would almost have to put padding in it to keep it from rattling.

I was going to try my hand with kydex to make my own and Mat said the shells might not take the force of my forming press. So I'll just wait until I can get a resin or rubber one from him to make my own holster.

Thanks Daddy Solo....... I had to correct that. LOL I meant to say..... "Man, I hope this thread ISN'T going south already". Thanks for the catch!

What run are you talking about? The season 1 licensed run I'm doing for QMx? or the Blood and Chrome run I'm thinking about doing for the members here?

The QMx run.... I can't comment on and couldn't even tell you what the final number will be.... I have no control over those numbers.

If I do the B&C run.... more than likely, it will be a kit to keep costs down and to give you guys some hand in building. Again.... not sure if I'll do it or not and depends on how many would even be interested.

I'd be interested, depending on how it compares in cost to the QMX run. I mean, I'd rather support a licensed version of the S1 gun (love those side switches!), but if those end up being $1000 a piece...bring on the B&C sidearms! :lol

hey ken, thanks for all the info on the Underworld stuff. i had some other questions but i'll hold onto them for a bit. i think i'll tick people off if i keep diverting the thread LOL!!

oh, fyi...if you do happen to do a run of B&C kits....COUNT ME IN!!! seeing all the shell pics makes me want one more and more. lol

Since I already have a season 1 airsoft clamshell from Matsuo, I'd be veeeeeery interested in one of your B&C sidearms (metal if possible) pending price. Either way, thanks so much for this thread!!

I'd be in on a run here of the Blood & Chrome props! Kits from the show's prop guy himself? Can't get any better than that!

You mentioned Fringe, but one of these appeared on Stargate: Universe as well, seen in the hands of one of the Lucian Alliance. So which gun was it? Mini, S1, or B&C?

@Hairy43

Well, the season 1, as far as I know, would not have been used because those were studio property and would have been archived at that time when BSG came to an end. Also, those would have not been able to be used on any other shows. Now, at that time, I had at least one of the hero season 1 guns and 1 of the mini series guns in my posession. Like I mentioned earlier in the thread, I had built the B&C guns intended for Caprica but they were not used. He guns were in the hands of the armorer up in Vancouver during Stargate Universe and were being rented out on various projects. The two mini series guns finished life and one came to me and the other sold to a private collector.

To answer your question..... more than likely it was one of mine. I really didn't keep track of what shows they were used on. Like I said, the armorer had them and was rentingbthem out. If you have a pic, i can positively identify if it was the B&C. But like I said.... I doubt it was a mini series gun and definitely not a season 1.

Wow Kenney just wow, it's so great to see how these sidearms go together and the work thats gone into them from design to manufacture, and if you do decide to do a B&C run please consider me very interested! Thanks again

I love seeing machined Alu, my machine would take years to do something that thick :(

What CAM software do you use. I normally use ASPIRE but it may be coming to an end since all imported DXFs have jagged edges and it shows through on the toolpath.

Love the work you do mate, do you happen to have any vids of them being machined?

Phil

@Philly

Thanks for the kind words. I use Mastercam X5 for those but recently got the X6 upgrade. Lol.... I never really took videos of the machining. I mean.... I've taken plenty of pics, though.... only a couple videos here and there for prop masters. The reason is this, the cycle times are way too long to take a complete video. Then I would have to do something about speeding it up afterwards so you can actually see whats going on. My step over is so tight, its like its standing still when it runs. Lol Any video I take would be a few minutes of a specific process. I mean, i guess I could keep taking small videos and piece them together. I really never gave it much thought. Plus, my lead times on projects are so short, the last thing I need to worry about is a video shoot on top of a vogue shoot. Lol But, i'll keep that in mind on future projects.

Cheers,
Kenney

I love what your doing. I know it is costly to get those machined plus raw material , but all i can say is.........
I think I am going to pass out now, .............lightheaded.....getting dark in here......ughhhhhh................................................................................................................................................
