Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome Colonial Sidearms

That is an absolutely stunning and gorgeous set of shells. I fell in love with the gun starting with the miniseries and was very happy to see it pop up again in B&C. The Five-seveN just didn't do it for me.

the shells are outstanding!!
and not to divert the thread but can you say what you did for Underworld: Awakenings?
impressive list of credits btw :)

@Bad Wolf..... I mean Jewel (Serenity)..... I mean Anna. lol

Dude, seriously, that avatar of yours is distracting. lol

Sure, I made the hero firing "Antigen" guns that Kate uses throughout a good portion of the film. I also built the hero metal "Battle Ax" that she breaks off in the back of the werewolf. Now, there were 5 metal hero firing guns and 3 metal hero Battle Ax swords.

I forgot. Another prop I built for Underworld Awakening..... I designed and machined up all the parts for the "Knuckle Buster" that Theo James uses. You don't see it in the film but while him and Kate are in the van, he thrusts this weapon into the werewolf and hits a trigger and two barbs shoot out either side and pop out its neck. This was completely real practical effect and did do that.

@UnitPD

You can't go from A to Z without first going through the rest of the letters. LOL What fun would it be if I just post a pic of the finished B&C? I want people to look forward to coming to the thread.... wondering what the next pic will be. Come on man..... play along with us. lol

Someone else did find a pic of my gun from when they were used on Fringe. It's in this thread.

@UnitPD

You won't regret it..... trust me. Wait until after Star Trek: Into Darkness screens in May. Man, will I have a thread for you guys. :love

@epilepticsuirl

Sorry Bro..... what was I thinking?:facepalm

I took a look at some of your threads. You got quite a few going. I love the web shooters. I would have loved to get on board with one of the Spiderman features. A friend of mine worked on one of them. All really good stuff.... love it.

LOL! sorry about the avatar.

really? that's the GP6,right? cool! i really liked those!! what made you pick that pistol as a base?
thanks for the info :)

and, yeah, can't wait to see your Trek posts later in 2013!

I did use the GP6 as well as the K102r and the K105r. Since all the guns are dimensionally identical outside, I used a semi auto (GP6) to design and CAD the cosmetic aluminum shells for all the guns. We did convert some of the GP6s to full auto to give us the extra guns we needed.

Also, I couldn't get the full autos imported into the states. Since we filmed up in Vancouver, we brought the 102 and 105 guns into Canada directly from Slovakia. I had my GP6s down here to use as the donor guns to design off of. Again, because of the laws, we had to convert the additional existing GP6s in Vancouver to full auto. But, when I got some of the prop back after the show, I re-mated a set of the screen shells to the original gun I used to design and build from.

I want this thread to keep going, so I'd love to ask a couple of questions about the new BSG guns (any of the versions): I was lucky enough to win one of the mini-series weapons from the first auction, and when I received it, I noticed the top detailing looked awfully familiar...

(sorry about the blur--the only camera I have with me right now is my phone's)

For Kenney: did you do this as an homage to the old series, or was it coincidental? I guess I'm assuming you designed the prop, but I realize I don't know if you did the initial design or followed something provided by the art department. So, I suppose my second question is who did design these sidearms?

Thanks for sharing on these boards--it's much appreciated!

Oh god, they're gorgeous. I didn't catch it if you said already, but were the aluminum shells used on the props in the show, or were these masters for casting?

Man, that's super clean. With props this nice, why haven't we had a good, long close-up on screen? They beg to be shown off!

...

Going to go a little off-topic here, but I hope I can be forgiven.

Here's some concept art that was auctioned off. Shows some of the variations that were considered.

Those look good, especially the holsters. I'd like to try to make a kydex holster for my S1, but Matsuo told me he wasn't sure the shell could take the force of the press, so I've been pestering him for a resin to use. He's been busy so I'll wait until he has him stuff in order and he's able to make me one.

@AnubisGuard

What you see in the pic is one of the actual screen used firing heros from Blood and Chrome before I put the coating on them. I made two heros which were used on the show. I know the armorer had a couple rubber mini series guns from the BSG show and I think the studio may have used those as well.

@greylocke

Here's the story behind the holsters. First, technically, the vacuum formed holsters for BSG were made for the mini series guns.... which are not as wide as the season 1 guns that followed. So, that's the reason why many of the vacuum formed holsters started to split/crack at the seems...... they were not made for the wider Season 1 shells.

Now, there are some replica holsters out there and those are based on Matt's replica season 1. His gun is larger than the hero season 1 or my guns. If you did get one of his hosters, you would not have any issues to worry about. At least I don't think you would. I had one of those holsters in my hands and the hero guns fit in it very loose. You would almost have to put padding in it to keep it from rattling.
