UPDATE! Looks like the ball is rolling! Me and a few others have flooded Indy's inbox with source material, photos, patterns etc. I sent my measurements to Indy last week for the "prototype" which will be used for promotion/advertising.

There reference pictures all over the net you have to buckle down and do the research. Part of learning any Sci Fi cosplay genre is diving in and researching the materials. The belt worn with the pant was a standard web belt. Though it looks dark on TV watching the original series it was a bluish color. Web belt buckle standard.

I was lucky to find what I found on ebay you can also try etsy.com right now the. Black and gold trim is very hard to find someone I know had contacted companies trying to get them to make it a company called pearl and trim said they could make it. But wanted alot to make it.

It’s like I had stated the black and gold checkered trim is like grail hard to find rare at times. Getting it made will cost big bucks for a small run. Only time you save money if there is a huge run. It’s out there but you have to keep searching.

Thank you. Lighting does it again in some 1978 scenes it looked like dark blue color. To bad back in 78 no one thought of putting together an accurate visual dictionary to the series. It would have been a great asset to have even as a collectible.

The holsters were not blue but a steel grey which some think is faded blue

My question was about the belt on the pants to be specific, also is it odd that I prefer the tunic when its worn out with the large ceremonial belt rather than tucked in.

There is a bit of controversy over the exact color of the web pistol belts. As typical it all goes back to "Different colors appear on screen in different ways according to the lighting and materials."

The general consensus over at BlackStar Squardon (A BSG costuming site) is that while the belts appear blue in many scenes or photos, they were likely not actually blue USAF web belts. There is also supposedly an interview with the costume designer where he said, "I'd never use blue belts with a brown uniform." (Although I've yet to see that actual interview myself. I've only seen people reference it).

The guys over at Black Star have had good luck replicating the look of the web belts by dying white web belts black or even taking standard olive drab web belts (as most military surplus belts are), stripping the color out with a dye remover, and then dying them black afterwards.

This results in a sort of gun metal gray that can even look blue-ish under the right lights.
