Hi, not long ago a decided to make my first attempt at costume making. I always wanted a batman suit so I decided to give it a try. I decided on an Arkham built mainly drawing isnpiration from arkham origins becaouse spandex or tights are realy not my thing, I am too thin to pull that off. The base of the armor plates is made from paper or cardboard. The chest and abs were made based on a paper mache cast of my upper body and are covered in grey strechy fabric. The cowl and neck pieces are a heavyli modified arkham city cowl the neck is from an iron man suit, the shoulders are from a stormtrooper armor all done with pepakura. Im thinking of paper macheing them fore more support the shoulder and bycep pieces will be covered in fabric then. I just don´t know what to do with the cowl and neck pieces and also the gauntlets i was thinking about strenghtening them with paper mache sand them down a bit and covering them inside out with black latex, I just dont know if that would work. I realy don´t have the money to make a proper olaster cast and everithing so some advice would be greatly apprecieated. Im currently working on the leg armor and the byceps and I´m thinking about how to make the belt. Any input would be apprecieated. Also sorry for any mistakes in my english its not my first langague.

I've been thinking about the cowl and I think I'm going to abandon the latex idea. In the arkham knight screenshots and trailer it looks like the cowl is more like a helmet made of two seperate pieces so I thought about making a stiff helmet with two seperate pieces. I drew up a quick sketch with some ideas I just dont know how to put the two pieces together once it comes to wearing it.

You know what, I'm actually in the same boat as you.
I'm in process of building an Arkham cowl from Origins that I'm about to fiberglass the interior and the opening is too small to just put on. I knew this going in. I'd actually adjusted the mouth opening to fit my face instead of leaving the massive gap around it it as it would have from the stock design. I knew as soon as I glued the last seam I'd left open under the chin, I wouldn't be able to test fit it anymore, but have done so to begin fiberglassing. Currently, I have a coat on the exterior, but stopped to make a fill in piece for around the eyes, that I'm hoping will have worked quite nicely.
But, I'm left to wonder what would be the best way to make it wearable: cut a section out of the back and make a hinge like an Iron Man helmet (not unlike your figure two), or cut a section out of the bottom of the jaw line and make the jaw a separate piece. I've seen the second done and decently here: http://www.therpf.com/f77/batsuit-build-finished-206491/.
I've also seen a comic reference from Injustice that supports the methods.

Here you can clearly see that the Bat-mask is a two piece unit (and, no, Superman didn't tear the helmet apart, I have other images that show this separation. This is just the best).
This method would also allow full motion of the jaw when speaking. I imagine that the jaw would become quite ridged once fiberglassed and unyielding against the soft flesh of the neck.

Thanks for the pic I'm thinking of making it a two piece helmet mith a litle edge on the inside of the lower piece on wich the upper part of the helmet would sit and also adding a bit of velcro to a few points to make it stay in place. And the neck piece will be probabli the armor plating of the iron man neck cut into pieces and glued or sewn into place on some black fabric for better head movement and velcroing it at the back and I will leave the fabric to be longer at the top so I can tuck it under the helmet so my skin wont show. Also I finished the upper leg pieces and the pepakura templates for the shin armor, knee and boot. The bicep and tricep armour is finished too I just cut some cardboard into the shape I fanted and attached some foam on top of it then a formed tjhe edges of the foam and covered it in grey fabric. I just need to harden the pepakura templates up and then think about the sanding ang painting options. I also need to buy som straps, elastic straps and screws so I can put everithing together. And I'm thinking about side armour for the ribs but I ran out of the fabric I used so I don't know if I'll do it.

I'm still learning my way through pepakura, I can't figure out how to flip that gauntlet file for the opposite arm? Your build looks very promising, looking forward to your updates!

Thanks :) as for the gauntlet I flipped it at the print options of my printer there was an option there for mirror print. Well right now I´m just layering up the models and this will take a lot of time but when I get the missing stuff I need I start assembling most of the armor.

So I made some progress with the helmet and I made a test fit but it still needs to be smoothen out and painted and I will also add some leather parts other than the straps at the back.

That looks really tight at the throat. How is it for comfort? I'm not criticizing, I'm curious. Still working on my helmet and am in the process of firming mine up with fiberglass on the interior before I make any final decisions.

Well actually its not that bad. Makes eating a bit hard and the sides of the helmet are pushing my ears a bit but it can be worn over longer periods of time. but maybe it would be a good idea to seperate the chin piece and atach it with some kind of elastic bands or straps or something I'm still thinking about the possibilities.

Hi I thought I post a small update. I've been test fitting the unfinished helmet with the rest of the cowl pieces. Rigth now I'am thinking about the front piece of the lower cowl that will hold it together becouse I dont't want it to be from the leathery material I used on the rest of the cowl. So I would be happy to get some suggestions. I also finished the ab piece and will be working on the chest piece, I've got to glue the fabric onto the piece at the back becouse its just hold in place by threads. After that I'm going to put the straps on the chest and ab pieces so it will be finaly wearable. Everythings just sewn together at the momen but in the final stage I'm going to add some screws or something just for the looks of it.

Hello, just wondering your progress with your cowl? I stumbled across your thread and was happy to see someone with the same idea/problem as me. I found a cheap rubies arkham cowl on line that I'm going to cut to fit and then try fiberglass to harden. I also plan to attach the parts of the cowl to a spandex hood. Hopefully that will let me pull it over my head.
