Bandai release schedule

Is the digital Falcon with the Batman tumbler the same one that's flying in the trailer? I can see some of the sidewall details are different from the 144 and 5-footer. Or maybe Bandai is reserving that for the future 1/72 - hopefully with options for ANH and TFA. The docking ring actuators seem out of place on digital falcon, don't they? But it would be nice to update on the little model anyway.
 
The detail in the cockpit looks great! I'll probably do like I did on the FM small falcon and cut a slot and put in a clear strip for the back wall horizontal lights, and then drill in holes for the fiber optics in the wall and the dash. It was tedious work, but it looked pretty good and added a lot to the kit.

I got a surprise last night while checking email... the TFA Falcon and X-Wing I ordered on Amazon last week that were scheduled to be released early this next week have shipped out and are expected to arrive possibly by Thursday. :thumbsup That's better than the original "early to late December" dates they gave me with the free shipping before I cancelled and reordered it and added shipping in.

I noticed in their finished model pics how they had the cockpit off so you could see the people inside more clearly. Maybe that is designed to lift off so you can see all the great cockpit detail. If so, that would be great for those wanting to light the interior and go nuts on painting detail.

It may have been shown and I missed it, but what's the detail like on the gunner walls? Sticking some fiber optics in there to at least have some light showing through the glass would look good.

Looks like I'll need to start scoping out some lighting kits. Oh Bandai, you are killing my bank account. :facepalm
 
Thanks Robn1, that explains the difference. Always harder to kitbash fullsize Falcons. I remember reading about the London crew sourcing auto junkyards for the fullsize ANH. Kitbashing using model tank parts surely looks better than real junkyard scrap but wouldve been way more expensive and time consuming to build 1:1 replicas of such parts.

Yes... Bandai has been very consistent with the design of these kits. Many of the ships so far have some sort of removable panel... X-Wing, the nose comes off, the Y-Wing the nacelle cone is removable, the Tie Fighters have an under hull plate that comes off exposing the ion drive or whatever, now the millennium Falcon... all little features that you can do whatever you want with.

Also all the kits have some sort of option or accessory included that is directly related to events in the films... R2 has all the tools he used throughout the films, C-3P0 has his eye hanging out from ROTJ, the Snowspeeder has the tow hook line, the X-Wing has the torpedos that Luke fires into the port on the Death Star. The AT-ST has Chewie standing in the open hatch from ROTJ, etc.

Also many of the ships models that were in "A New Hope" that Bandai has released come on stands that are directly modeled after ILM's original Death Star tile designs.

Pretty clever stuff overall.

Because by that time they were already after tying in with finemold based on the legend of their kit details, by then it's too late to retool etc, Bandai must be very good negotiators with attention to detail to match .

Revell claims they did have them. I believe that too because their First Order TIE and Kylo Ren shuttle are very accurate to ILM's models. I do believe they dumbed down some of the detail to make molding easier.
 
I'd also be careful with the comparisons of the MF to the 5 footer (asymmetric side wall detail etc), as the CGI model could have this different, too.

Regarding the Revell kits, I wonder why their shuttle doesn't have at least the option to build the wings in open position... it seems like they didn't even know that they move. Would fit into my picture of the R kits...
 
One thing I'm noticing is different between this and the 5 footer is that lip between the saucer and the mandibles. If I'm not mistaken, there isn't actually a lip on the bottom of the falcon, just the top

Possibly the production was somewhat in a hurry in order to get the kits released months before the movie launches, so they simply skipped the opportunity. The same happened to the TOS BSG Viper (no cockpit, no landing gear).

It's funny how Revell always seems to be rushed and have some excuse for clunky, inaccurate, toy-like models while other companies, like Bandai, manage to produce kits with superior accuracy, functionality and are cheaper to boot in the same time frame.
 
Yes! My TFA Falcon and X-Wing are on their way out of Chicago. :thumbsup I'm in Kansas City, MO, so hopefully they'll be here sooner than the Nov. 9th estimate.
