Bandai release schedule

At that scale, your Falcon looks pretty good to me!

Checked StarWars.com and they have the Falcon at 34.75 meters so the Bandai kit is, spot on, size wise at least

Wookiepedia put the Falcon at 34.37 meters. At 1/144 that is 238.6mm. Wikipedia has it at 34.75 meters, which is... 241.3mm FWIW
Wow!

The fine molds one is about 220mm AND a lot of that is taken up with those extra long mandibles. I think this one is actually gonna look sweet

(but I still hope they let us do the battle damage...Especially if anyone wants to turn this into a different yt1300)

They even started having 2016 releases showing. First Order Special Forces Thailand Fighters coming in January after the December release of R2, BB-8 and FIrst order Thai Fighter.
The 26th of September when they attend the trade show, might reveal more plans on what is coming past that.

The Falcon's port side detail is the same as the starboard side?

Oh,...well spotted.....it might be an error in the build for the promo,.....maybe it'll be fixed in the final kit

...in any case, if thats the only inaccuracy,....i'm sure we could rectify it

Heres the top view side by side

Thank you, Japan! Revell just wants to make a slew of "some assembly required" toys. I absolutely love these.

The side walls and docking rings on the Falcon look so different - like it's had 20 years of add on modification. From what I've seen of the TFA computer model and the full set, they nailed this. They look so different to me that putting a Shapeways radar dish on it and calling OT just wouldn't work. It's a very different falcon.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the new X-wings until I saw this. My excitement for TFA just got bumped.

And I actually see quite a lot going on with the TIE that has changed. There's some kind of vent on either side of the cockpit window, the struts have a lot more going on and the strut connection to the wing is pretty different.

One thing I can't figure out is: Are these prepaints or color molded? The falcon and X-wing are both so heavily weathered I can't tell. I don't really see significant panel lines on either that the previous Bandai models have had. The TIE definitely looks color molded though.

All my dollars are being converted to Yen. I don't understand why Revell can't even try to compete. Leave the toys to Hasbro and Lego. I just don't get it.

I agree Cliff. And on top of everything else, Revell thinks their kits are made of gold! At least these Bandai kits are built to a scale and the prices are reasonable. I love the accuracy and detail on these kits, and cannot wait for them to release because I need one of those Falcons, 2 TIEs and 2 X-Wings :)

As far as the moldings; I figure they are color molded like the previous models. Although the Slave 1 kit states it requires painting so the Falcon most likely will also.

I agree and have argued this point on a few modeling forums. Revell has abondoned adult modelers in favor of selling un-built toys to kids. People will argue that it gets more kids into building models which is great. But where do they go from there? Revell has nothing to offer after the kiddies have built all the cheapo toys, and certainly nothing to offer serious adult modelers. Sure the cheapie kits can be extinsively modified and custom parts made/cast/printed but why would one want to go that route when we have the Bandai kits? I wish the US based comapnies would realize that there are still a lot of adult modelers who want detailed kits out of the box.

Bandai has proven that we are still here...

I have to join in by saying many many thanks to Bandai.
MF and Xwing come to me...... Pleaseeeee. LoL

I'm sure Revell USA will be and (and is) monitoring the Bandai SW model sales. If they see enough North American interest, I'm sure they will re-evaluate what type of models they will release. Let's not forget that they will be also releasing the modified FM models soon, so there is hope.

Taz, I have little hope given Revell's track record on Star Wars models. I'm sure they see the Japanese products as not really applicable to non-Japanese (aka, Revell's) markets. Kinda like the USN's perceptions of Japanese weapons in WWII - before they actually encountered them in combat (the Long Lance torpedo was the best available the entire conflict, for example...) I expect Revell will continue to view the SW franchise as a 'toy' market while Bandai continues to clean their clocks with regard to quality & appeal (if not sales...) As long as Revell uses elements of their '1960's' playbook, they will continue to lose in the quality arena. They will stay in business, perhaps, but no one will 'love' them like folks have loved Bandai & Monogram (RIP).

That depressing assessment aside, there is ALWAYS hope for change (for the better) since change is the only constant!

In any process, core assumptions should be regularly tested & critiqued for validity. This is particularly true in a world where the pace of technology far exceeds the 'human refresh rate'.

Regards, Robert

I know what you're saying Rob. Revell has a history of producing models of softer detail and, truthfully, lower quality most of the time. They are definitely not even close to Tamiya. Most of the top model producers are in Japan and China. The only way to compete with them is to retool, which is an extremely expensive undertaking. The chances of Hobbico (who owns Revell) totally restructuring is extremely low, and will most likely keep doing what they are doing presently. But there is always hope.
The trend nowadays, when speaking of companies who sell home appliances, is to get another manufacturer to build you a copy (perhaps of lesser quality) and you slap your own brand name on it with a few minor changes. If you can't beat them, join them.

After viewing the new Bandai Falcon is it correct to say that it's a mix between the ANH Falcon and the RoTJ one?
