Wow!Wookiepedia put the Falcon at 34.37 meters. At 1/144 that is 238.6mm. Wikipedia has it at 34.75 meters, which is... 241.3mm FWIW
The Falcon's port side detail is the same as the starboard side?
Thank you, Japan! Revell just wants to make a slew of "some assembly required" toys. I absolutely love these.
The side walls and docking rings on the Falcon look so different - like it's had 20 years of add on modification. From what I've seen of the TFA computer model and the full set, they nailed this. They look so different to me that putting a Shapeways radar dish on it and calling OT just wouldn't work. It's a very different falcon.
I wasn't sure how I felt about the new X-wings until I saw this. My excitement for TFA just got bumped.
And I actually see quite a lot going on with the TIE that has changed. There's some kind of vent on either side of the cockpit window, the struts have a lot more going on and the strut connection to the wing is pretty different.
One thing I can't figure out is: Are these prepaints or color molded? The falcon and X-wing are both so heavily weathered I can't tell. I don't really see significant panel lines on either that the previous Bandai models have had. The TIE definitely looks color molded though.
All my dollars are being converted to Yen. I don't understand why Revell can't even try to compete. Leave the toys to Hasbro and Lego. I just don't get it.
I agree Cliff. And on top of everything else, Revell thinks their kits are made of gold! At least these Bandai kits are built to a scale and the prices are reasonable. I love the accuracy and detail on these kits, and cannot wait for them to release because I need one of those Falcons, 2 TIEs and 2 X-Wings
As far as the moldings; I figure they are color molded like the previous models. Although the Slave 1 kit states it requires painting so the Falcon most likely will also.
I agree and have argued this point on a few modeling forums. Revell has abondoned adult modelers in favor of selling un-built toys to kids. People will argue that it gets more kids into building models which is great. But where do they go from there? Revell has nothing to offer after the kiddies have built all the cheapo toys, and certainly nothing to offer serious adult modelers. Sure the cheapie kits can be extinsively modified and custom parts made/cast/printed but why would one want to go that route when we have the Bandai kits? I wish the US based comapnies would realize that there are still a lot of adult modelers who want detailed kits out of the box.
Bandai has proven that we are still here...
