Back to the Future II: Marty's Jacket (the holy grail of BTTF props)

I was doing an image search for something else BTTF 2 related, and just stumbled upon this picture from Comikaze 2011:

Apparently this is from November 2011, and boy that sure looks like one of Ed's jackets. Could this be jacket # 1 being worn by "DJDaveyDave?"

His only post on here: http://www.therpf.com/f24/back-future-ii-martys-jacket-holy-grail-91102/index9.html#post1915867

You can see this person is wearing the official Mags too, lucky guy. But that's besides the point. Well, if I'm correct, it's really neat to see one of Ed's jackets in the wild!

thats a great jacket Mitastouch! that kitchen mat stuff looks fantastic!

i wouldnt mind making something like that, inspired by the jacket.

No offense Roland but you are comparing a 25 year old aged latex jacket to a new one. All the parts on the screen used jackets 1,2,3,4 were all made from the exact mix of rubber according to the man who made it. Every jacket has aged differently according to how it has been stored, displayed, etc. The worst condition jacket ive seen is the one that universal has in their archives also the one Nike displayed for the air mag launch. It has actually yellowed quite a bit. I'm not trying to fool anyone into thinking my jackets are the real thing. I've held the real jackets in my own hands. If you really want to nitpick, I'm my own worst critic, I could give you a list of things that aren't completely screen accurate but that seems silly to be honest.

man you're a legend!
thats the greatest replica jacket ive ever seen, not even the real makers would be able to tell the difference.

is that jacket a one off?

incredible.

I am going to sound very foolish asking this question but i am new to prop/ replica building. How is the mottled rubber effects created? Did you find a material with the same effect or is it created in a different way?

So, its been a while since i posted an update... The jacket is basically done... Here is a pic before the collar was permanently attached and before the lining was put in... I consider this one the prototype... I learned alot assembling this jacket of what not to do on the next one... Anyway, this jacket will be auctioned off at the weregoingback.com fundraiser for Team Fox on Friday... Anyway, here are a couple of pics...

WOW, the nicest I've see thus far!

Actually no has a 100% accurate jacket. The rubber for the sleeves has a texture on it that no one really knows how to do.

Hello, i was wondering, is there anyone that would be able to get me the bottom line of the jacket and sleeves? The part where some people used chair stuff XD!

A friend is making a jacket for me but I can't find this anywhere ><
Would pay the person to make me one or got me this!

Thanks!

wow im blown away by this, so blown away that i read this from end to end. . . i nenver do that lol. so seeing the fact that this would probably break my pocket since i have a start up business right now that taking all my money, i would like to try and make this on my own. i have a friend who graduated from FIT and went to fashion industries high school here in NYC and she wants to help me tackle this project with me as well, she has some great sources for fabric and textile makers so i feel my results would be dope :)

posted this in another thread figured i'd share here as well

so i have a friend who has graduated from NYC's top fashion design high school (fashion industries) and also from nyc's top college FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) and i went out and found something in the fashion district whitch is a dead on for the textured stuff on the jacket, she told me that it would be perfect and she could make it work on the jacket. its about 7 bucks for a yard of it, here is a pic of it

also for the sleeves, nike uses a textured leather that looks exactly like that and here in NYC i know the direct leather tannery that supplies nike with leather, i haven't been there since last year but i can pass by again and have a chat with those guys, they are really cool.

as far as the inside of the jacket i am currently on the hunt for that and yesterday i visited a few fabric and textile places

as soon as i find that out then i will attack my own project and have the help of 3 great friends who make clothing so i will keep you guys updates on that

Pretty cool :D, here is my finished jacket :D (Thank you Mara & Aaron <3)
I'll take a picture when i'll wear it too, so you can see how the sleeves can be folded.
