Back to the Future II: Marty's Jacket (the holy grail of BTTF props)

I was really happy with the way your jacket turned out frosty. Sorry it's a tad too big in the shoulders. It was difficult to estimate the final sizing without having a model of your size to try it on throughout the process. I had to deviate from the normal size of pattern and parts to custom make that smaller size. The shoulders could be taken in but I hesitate to do that only because the pattern scaling was created off the actual jacket. If I bring it in a couple inches in the shoulders we will sacrifice a bit of the screen accuracy as the proportions would be a bit different. The cuffs could be made smaller easily. We can discuss what is involved with that.

Don't get me wrong Ed, this thing is exactly as you promised - an absolute work of art and highly screen accurate - it's true that it looks like a "brand new, screen-used jacket".
I'm blown away at how exact you got the colors!!
I will take some more detailed photos of me wearing the jacket sometime this week and we can talk about the cuffs...

... This thing is BEYOND incredible - the colors and details are spot on. ...

Hmmm, looks really nice, but in comparison with the screen used, I noticed, that the shades of gray are not screen accurate. The gray on 1, 3 and 4 seems to be the same on the screen used jacket. Just the gray on 2 is slightly brighter. On the replica the shades of gray on 1, 2 and 3 are the same. Just 4 is darker.

Apart from that: Good work!

Leave it to the RPF to nitpick:lol
Honestly though, I took that pic with my camera phone so it does not have the best color reproduction but I have noticed that the color will look lighter or darker depending on your lighting source and what kind of camera you are using.

No offense Roland but you are comparing a 25 year old aged latex jacket to a new one. All the parts on the screen used jackets 1,2,3,4 were all made from the exact mix of rubber according to the man who made it. Every jacket has aged differently according to how it has been stored, displayed, etc. The worst condition jacket ive seen is the one that universal has in their archives also the one Nike displayed for the air mag launch. It has actually yellowed quite a bit. I'm not trying to fool anyone into thinking my jackets are the real thing. I've held the real jackets in my own hands. If you really want to nitpick, I'm my own worst critic, I could give you a list of things that aren't completely screen accurate but that seems silly to be honest.

No need to defend you work Ed, but I appreciate your chiming in.
Let's be honest here; not a single person in the entire world has ever come close to replicating this jacket. Ed didn't come close - he really hit the nail on the head.
I am so proud and honored to own Ed's finest jacket to date and it is one of the crown jewels of my collection and one of the reasons I got into prop collecting in the first place.

Of course, I know that the colors of clothing can change after such a long time. Maybe the shades of gray were exactly the same at the screen used jacket, when it was new. The only question to myself is: If the colors on points 1, 2 and 3 are the same, as we can see on Ed's replica, and the colors were just getting darker in 20 years, why is the shade of gray on point 2 still bright at the original jacket? Is it because it's made of another material?

I just want to help to find inaccuracies, so please don't get me wrong, because I really don't want to denigrate Ed's certainly hard work on this jacket. It's the best replica of this jacket, that I've ever seen and you can bet that I would like to have it in my collection. ;)

Help us?
Look dude, I already stated that the pic was taken with my crappy cell phone so the color is off from what it looks like in person - and what Ed has added about the color differences is sound.
Why you would come in here to specifically point out differences is a party foul.

Alright, if any objections are undesirable, so I can let it go. No problem. I surely don't want to spoil your party.

I'm sure this jacket will be more epic than the shoes they sold on Ebay

I have a pair of the official Nike Mags and hope to soon have the time to set up my photography studio setup and take pics of the jacket and shoes together.

I'm in the stages of making my own jacket, but I'm having difficulties putting the red kitchen mats onto my jacket. It's just simply too hard for me to do.

Can someone make sheets of the bumpy texture of Marty Jr.'s jacket and sell them? If not does someone know how to make the material?

Just read this entire thread. Amazing work! Just thought I would mention that the liner material reminds me of the cape they put around you when getting your hair cut. I'm sure I've seen some with rainbow colors before. If you could find it, maybe these would be a tad easier to build...
