Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build NEW VIDEO JACKET pg 27!!!

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

The fact that they are a US company helps. One of these companies would need to be able to provide us with one long length of this for a mold in my opinion. And making a mold of it would be fine except the casting method. Solid rubber casting would be a little weighty and trying to slush cast a piece that long would be a pain. A brush in latex could work but i don't know how much you would have to apply to get it to hold it's shape. There are a lot more guys out there with more experience with casting methods and materials but thats where my head is.

Come on guys.... This is Brad's JACKET build thread, not a MP shoes modification thread. Let us stop hijacking the build thread. There are other mod threads for the MP shoes, so maybe take the discussion there or start a new thread.

Sorry Brad!!

All the last posts here are about the chair material for the jacket no?

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I was talking about the jacket then made a sidenote about the shoes haha.

Just an idea I'm throwing out there... Instead of the chair pieces, an alternative for buying, molding, and casting the pieces, I was thinking maybe Dremeling a foamboard, plastering it, then casting pieces in latex. That way, you could Dremel in pieces as long or as wide/narrow as you'd need. Sorta like this Dremel a Batman Foam Board Master for a Plaster Mold

I was also thinking of maybe latex coating a jacket, or materials for a jacket. Not entirely sure it would work, but its just another thought.
Coating Fabrics and Porous Surfaces with Liquid Latex

:lol I thought they were still on the shoes .... My bad :lol

No we are back on the jacket. That chair in the link earlier is about 1K from where I live. How much of this stuff do we need?

If you're going to mold it you could get away with very little and mold a bunch of little pieces, stick them together to the length you need, then re-mold them in the rubber.

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I am actually thinking about Vac Forming the parts. Think Stormtrooper utility belts.

That might be too stiff :confused
It should be rubber to bend with the fabric, don't you think?

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

I always wondered if you could vac-form in a semi-rigid vinyl.

Honestly with one decent piece of this from a chair, you could probably make all the mold masters you would need for a single jacket. Just take the one ribbing piece and split it down the middle - you would not have twice as much. Set that up nice and flat to make an RTV mold, then cast two or three new masters from Polyurethane to make a final mold master 3x longer than your original. I'm confident that would be enough for the bottom and cuff of one jacket.

With the three masters setup as a long strip, Make another RTV mold and then cast your final pieces in tinted Ureflex 60 or similar URETHANE rubber. These parts aren't that thick so the overall weight won't be too bad in comparison to the rest of the jacket. If you are worried about the parts breaking, you could always embed a strip of nylon in the back of the urethane as you cast it.

Of course this is all theoretical, I've just had a few years to think about it. My ideas for the sleeves and body under form are even crazier :)

Just thinking aloud... what is the correct width of ribbing to get?

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Brad, why does your wall have a Flux Capacitor ? Can the wall travel in time ?

Jacket looks pro, outstanding job.

If it was made from 2mm HIPS or ABS (in black), it will flex quite well. I am just thinking that once the buck is made, how easy it is to do multiples of the part or parts. I used Vac Forming for parts on my MAGs and was able to make way more than I needed, all pretty much perfect clones for way less than buying rubber to make a mold and material to cast in. Sure rubber will flex and will keep the perfect shape, but having used rubber (cold cast clear elastomer) on my soles, I will suggest that it is not very cost effective, especially something does not go as planned.

I will try to recreate the belt from zero :

Il have make a model :

And now it's the first mold before the first cast :

To be continued :)

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

Jedifye, would you recommend silicone or latex rubber for the sleeves?

Re: Back to the Future II 2015 Jacket Build

They have a chair at Walgreens called Task chair

It looks like the same material on the neck.
It is $19.99 and on sale for $13.39

I'll snap a phone photo and post it tonight
