Avatar reviews - Attention : spoilers

firesprite - somewhere in the interviews leading up to it. Can't recall where.

Nwerke - hey, I can ignore multiple and grievous savagries against biology, logic, and human history.... or I can ignore the producer's website and four little numbers barely visible in the video logs.

Which one's easier? :p

(I like your idea though. :) )

Ah, so it wasn't actually IN the movie then.

Kaylee - LOL!

Nope. We have no idea whether most Pandoran vertebrates nurse their young, but Na'vi obviously do, and also have hair. They ARE mammals in the most important sense, or "mammaloids" at least.

Yeah, it was there when I posted it but it.. uh... disappeared. :$

Too late though, the Internets remember all! :lol

k

So....Solo - seen it yet? Waiting with bated breath for your opinion. :)

Actually I'm just posting in the hope of bumping KnightAsylum's HORRIBLE HORRIBLE cartoon character off the top of the page, so I won't have to look at it any more when I check this thread. :D

Edit: dang, didn't work. :)

Hrm. Not to... impune 'Marcel's' credibility, but I honestly don't know where Cameron thinks he could take the story for a sequel, much less a triology. In other words, I'll believe it when I see it from a credible news source, preferrably a video interview so I can hear the words from his own mouth.

BTW, I just got my copy of this today. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who liked the movie and wants to know more. The amount of work that they did in creating this world and its inhabitants is just astounding... You also get to a glimpse of what Earth has become and some further insight into things that you only got a glimpse of on the screen

I don't see why there couldn't be a sequel(s). I'm sure you can already find some pretty creative fanfics that explore areas untouched by the movie.

- Is Eywa a natural creation or artificial and if so, who made it ? Is there more to the Na'vi than meets the eye ? What's with the ponytail USB linkup ? Is there a wireless version ? Why are Na'vi somewhat different from the other wildlife ?
- They kicked out RDA, but what will happen when the news gets back to earth in a few years ? (my guess it involves firepower and lots of it.) Or worse yet, Pandora gets swamped with tree-huggers/hippies/new agers and turn Pandora into one big commune.
- The DVD/Blu Ray probably has more scenes and info that might be hints and setups for future movies.

And of course there is the questions of questions, does an Avatar come with a full tackle and will we hear the tiny patter of 4.5 toed feet ? :love

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Cameron's Pandora. I'd love to see a kind of "Walking with Thanators" documentary series on the wildlife of Pandora for instance.

Oh, I'm sure there are ideas out there... but I'm hoping that they'll leave this one alone. It stands on its own and we don't need a sequel. It just increases the chances that things will go horribly wrong.

Now, that being said, your idea of a 'documentary' is something I could really get behind. I would LOVE to see something like that. It would be creative and different and there is a LOT they could do with it, especially based on the amount of background info in the book I purchased that was only lightly touched upon in the actual film.

There is an extended sex scene with Jake and whats her name that will be on the DVDs.

If there is a sequel, I'd hope it would start with the perspective of the humans back on earth and we could see what's gone wrong back home, what the rock is needed for, how what happen is portrayed and how humans respond.

Maybe have a race to return between to factions of people - those who want to take the lifeforms on Pandora out for good, and a group that wants to warn them and help them defend themselves.

Meanwhile, back on Pandora they could be using that massive planet sized brain to think up weapons to protect themselves - more advanced alien lifeforms could be created or plants with defensive powers... all sorts of possibilities there.

When the humans get there to warn them they could realize the plan isn't to just protect themselves but to send the humans back to earth with lifeforms to help their ailing planet... maybe give them something that grows and replaces the need for this rock they think they need.

Then the gist becomes, can they convince the humans bent on killing them, who have the bigger ships that can transport the plants to not get themselves destroyed, but to bring back what they really need, but what will take work, cultivation and patience?

I can see in the sequel, with everyone who got kicked off of Pandora saying that the savage Na'vi attacked without cause and Earth will send a lot of firepower to recolonize Pandora and take what it was there for to begin with, which was the Unobtainium. Earth spent a lot of money setting up the mining system there and they are not just going to pull the plug. Especially, since the mineral is now a main source of energy. I can also see the mining corporation saying a lot of propaganda to put Earth society against the Na'vi for killing "innocent" humans without cause, and getting the support it needs to continue mining for the Unobtainium.
Maybe, in the final movie, the Na'vi will be able to teach humans on Earth to get more connected with their environment, revere it, and only take what it needs to survive, instead of exploiting and destroying it for it's own material greed.
Just like Native Americans never needed to mine gold (yellow metal that make white man crazy), the Na'vi never needed to mine unobtainium.
Have you hugged your tree today?
