Re: Avatar reviews

I'll be honest, I'm actually looking more forward to The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus then Avatar, but I'll probably see Avatar too.

"This is motion capture brought to a new high where every detail of the actors' performances gets preserved in the final CG character as they appear on the screen. Yes, those eyes are no longer dead holes but big and expressive, almost dominating the wide and long alien faces."

um... I guess they didn't see LOTR?

Okay, so it's not just me, then.. most of what I've seen them babbling about in terms of performance capture was already done on Gollum.

Re: Avatar reviews

there is only one Avatar

and he's an air bender

Avatar to me has always been this guy, the hero of Britannia from the Ultima series:

You've got to understand only 11 people have reviewed it (so far) on Rotten Tomatos.

QFT. I will honestly judge for myself. Some movies I've liked, reviewers have panned for whatever reason. Some I have dreaded seeing, the reviewers loved. A prime example was Slum-Dog Millionaire. That was a REALLY good movie. I digress though. Most of the reviews seem pretty positive.

Re: Avatar reviews

Nice that it's getting positive reviews, however, I tend not to trust reviewers as much as I trust my gut.

I'm also particularly wary of this shiny new technology (3D) that will supposedly sweep the landscape and usher in a new era of moviemaking. Mostly because I see overreliance on this or that technology (be it 3D, CGI, or virtual light) as tending to have an overall negative effect when people rely on it instead of writing a decent friggin' story.

I'll bet it's not as good as "Sisterhood of the travelling pants 3: Does my butt look big in these pants?"
