Avatar reviews - Attention : spoilers

Re: Avatar reviews

Except the lemurs I guess. That's a whole third vertebrate body plan right there.

The lemurs seemed to have forked arms, as if their four front limbs were in the process of merging into one. I assume it was intended to show a transitional stage between the Na'vi and the rest of the life on Pandora. (No idea about the extra eyes or nostrils on the neck though.)

Re: Avatar reviews

Saw it in Imax 3D and thought it looked stunning. All-in-all I did like the movie a lot. But there were two things that I thought were over looked, and sorry if they were already mentioned. I skimmed through this post and didnt see it, but if someone else mentioned it than I agree with them :)

1. If the humans really wanted to get rid of the Na'vi why didnt they just bomb the hell out of them from orbit (granted if they did that, then there really wouldnt be a movie)

2. The movie takes place in 2154. Its sad that the wheelchair of the future still looks the same or worse than todays :/

Re: Avatar reviews

I think one of the major problems here is that people seem to think that Cameron's stories and writing were ALWAYS great. They really weren't.I loved Avatar-it really was an experience.Everyone just kind of conveniently forgets how bad some of the dialogue in films like Terminator,T2,True Lies,Titanic and The Abyss actually was. They were riddled with plot holes and bad writing too but we gave it a pass because they were exciting,funny,action-packed and they were awesome to look at.They were never pieces of serious art for god's sake.I think the only Cameron film that didn't have these flaws in abundance was Aliens. All that said Avatar stood up as a very good James Cameron movie and it was a genuine experience in 3D.
I am sure the five people who have 3D enabled HDTVs will have a great time when it comes to blu-ray,lol.I will buy it as it was a cracking film for me anyway.

Well that is a problem in many sci fi films.
It can be frustrating to see massive ships and star travel possible but
the wars are fought like it is still WWI for some reason.

Re: Avatar reviews

Isn't this a huge spoiler? Maybe a spoiler warning at the beginning of the post? The thread title doesn't have spoiler warning either...

The title doesn't have 'no spoilers' either. :sleep

If you don't want spoilers, I suggest staying away from forums period. I talk about one scene I really liked and everybody wants to complain. :angry

Re: Avatar reviews

Avatar will probably be remembered as the Film most people loved until the Internet told them they shouldn't.

"I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

Re: Avatar reviews

Recycled plot from most every episode of Smurfs: Check

Great fight (and flight) scenes: Check

Movie stolen by great "bad" guy because "good" guy is boring (just like Waterworld and Robin Hood): Check

Yet another leftist "save the forest, noble savages" crapfest plot that (amazingly enough) that is only "won" by a heterosexual white military male?: Check :angel

I liked it. Didn't love it, but I liked it just fine. Worth seeing, especially in a theater that brings you pizza and beer :love

Alex

PS In a "realistic" (gag) world, I would expect that after spending that much money to mine a mineral, that The Company would just pull back and neutron bomb the site from orbit (just to be sure)...

Re: Avatar reviews

Why not just neutron bomb them from orbit? Win win!

(Oh was there any talk about what the atmosphere was down there and why it kicked humans ***?)

Yes, exactly my thinking: something distantly related to the Na'vi that provides a visual excuse for them being so different.

However it's a very, very difficult thing to justify, biologically. They'd have been far more likely to just have a vestigial second pair of arms, or to have lost them the same way snakes lost their legs. Limbs don't merge.

Heck all of it is tough to justify, biologically. An eco-system where all the higher life forms have built in, same language, fire-wire ports? Yea right.

Re: Avatar reviews

Absolutely. That's why I say it's Greg Bear-ish; like the centrally-directed ecosystems in Moving Mars or Legacy. It really only makes sense if Eywa is literally an organism in her own right and plays a major part in the development (or creation?!) of the various other species.

Re: Avatar reviews

Avatar will probably be remembered as the Film most people loved until the Internet told them they shouldn't.

Sites like this are a great place to share insights and opinions, but so far as I can tell no one on the internet ever convinces anyone else to like or dislike a particular film.

King Kong, The Ten Commandments, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Wizard of Oz, 2001, Star Wars, The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings all have their share of flaws. Avatar has them too, but that won't stop it from becoming a classic. Audiences love to be transported to other worlds, and Avatar accomplishes that to an extent I wouldn't have thought possible.

Can't wait to see it again.

Re: Avatar reviews

Loved it, and just like with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, I had a moment right after the film where I was reminded that pretty much the only limitation in moviemaking today is the imagination. Super neat effects and fantastic, just fantastic artistic design of the settings, Pandora was awesome.

Re: Avatar reviews

Just saw AVATAR in 3D. What a beautiful film. An amazing experience, myself and the audience applauded at the end. AMAZING and WONDERFUL. Thank God they can still make a movie that will take your breath away.

Re: Avatar reviews

Except for the obvious political undertones, it was a very enjoyable movie for me when I saw it last weekend. And I didn't even find this thread until just now.

No offense intended, nor a complaint, nor singling you out, just asking.

That's how it has always been done here.

If discussion reveals plot or outcomes, then the word spoiler has to be indicated.

Read the CoC.

Spoiler Content in posts/threads:
All threads with spoiler information must be identified with the label SPOILER in the subject. Please also be careful not to post any potential spoiler material in the message subject title itself.

I saw the movie already so it didn't make a difference to me, I posted for the benefit of those who have not seen it yet but would like to read reviews of it. Do reviews reveal the key point of the ending of a movie?
