Avatar reviews - Attention : spoilers

Re: Avatar reviews

Just got back from Avatar 3D, thought it was awesome, not life changing but incredible CGI, def the best ever created. I enjoyed the story but with everyone comparing it D9 I can understand that D9 was more compelling for me. Its the first 3D film I've seen since Space Hunter in the eighties, I Loved the 3D in Avatar, enhanced but not over stated.

The scene with the giant 2 headed spider thing that drowns was incredible.....maybe that was the dream I had last night?

Re: Avatar reviews

Seems to me many people are hung up on the cost of making AVATAR as opposed to D9 and/or Moon... its wasnt mine or anyones money that was spent makiing this film...I dont understand this "hate" or the comparisons made.

This movie will far exceed the 250mill cost in world-wide sells. Now doubt about it. Its ludicrous to even think different. This is the first film in a long time that I rushed out to get tickets thinking I wouldnt get a seat! I admit the 1145A showing wasnt packed but there was a reasonable crowd.. BUT the 645P was packed!! The entire theatre was full of crowds to get in.

Im curious to see the final talley for the weekend.

Oh BTW ALIEN is getting a retread...hope it looks as good!

Re: Avatar reviews

I thought it was 400 million, RA.

Edit: As far as the money spent is concerned, I think it is not that people are worried over the cost. I think they are merely pointing out that far better movies can be made on far less money.

Try $500 Million.
And yes, that's my point, superior movies can be made at a fraction of the cost. Good for the studio, good for the movie viewer.

You're missing my point :) I'm just saying that becuase a movie cost more to make, it doesn't make it a better film.

Re: Avatar reviews

I completly agree. The cost of the film shouldnt be the issue. I think that alot of the costs involved stem from the new technology developed to produce AVATAR.

My new fear is that this technolgy will become widespread and the SCIFI channel gets ahold of it!! LOL!!

I was just blown away.

I loved it. That scene with Neytiri and Jake at the end was so.........

:love :love :love :love :love :love :love

his hand.....it's so tiny.....

All those scenes of the environment, the creatures, the effects and the battles didn't come close to that crowning moment of awesome that was that scene.

Re: Avatar reviews

Some people seem to think the movie is an expensive PSA for global warming. I haven't seen it yet, but would like to know what you guys think.

Re: Avatar reviews

I think the things that most amazed me was the emtion of the Neytiri character. The facial expressions were amazing! The tears in the lab when she finds Jake were incredible..

I didn't get that out of it at all. At its core is a people who have a sort of symbiotic relationship with nature and the so called "company" (humans) those in charge any way could care less.

I agree, also the subtle movements like involuntary swallowing , breathing (diaphragm movements etc) simply amazing attention to detail in general.

I also enjoyed the "tech" aspect of it. Little things like manipulation of the controls of the aircraft. I also really loved the large thin LCD head up displays. Neat stuff!

Isn't this a huge spoiler? Maybe a spoiler warning at the beginning of the post? The thread title doesn't have spoiler warning either...

I enjoyed it today....again. :lol

Re: Avatar reviews

I remember a time when I genuinely LIKED "AotC." Before the Internet told me I shouldn't.

You're easily swayed. Think for yourself. :)

Saw Avatar earlier today and will say that I liked it. The story was engaging enough that after awhile I stopped caring about the CG. The main character's accent would come and go, but all in all I think everyone did a great job. I could have went with a shorter film though. Too much sitting and shifting around. Leave me wanting more instead of giving me too much. I will probably see it again.

Re: Avatar reviews

Haven't read through the whole thread but after seeing Avatar today I made three comments.

1. Avatar really came across as Dances with Wolves except this time the indians win. That's NOT necessarily a negative in my book. I loved this movie.

2. District 9 AND Avatar both handled giant fighting robots better than another film also released this year whose primary focus was giant fighting robots. FU Michael Bay.

3. Has Michelle Rodreguiz EVER survived a movie series or TV show in which she was cast?

:)
