Tony shipped out my parts today so it is possible I get to start on my first upgrade this weekend!! Oh joy! Rapture! ...said the Scarecrow.
Y'all are inspiring me to pull my phasers out to add metal bits to 'em.
Have you ever done something and then thought.....I probably shouldn't have done that?
It's the thought that went through my mind after I disassembled the P1. :facepalm
That being said, I would like to seal up the outer battery access as I have seen several of you do. Since the other side of the battery compartment (on the inside of the P1) is closed, how do you get to your batteries? Did you open this closed side up to get to the batteries? Any tips would be appreciated.
Thought I'd post an update on my phaser build so far.

This is my P1 bottom half with interior battery compartment now accessible and trigger ridge sanded away. I've test fitted the new firing nozzle and trigger. Fits nice.

Both sections sanded with side ribs removed with new trigger and nozzle being test fit.
I still have much to do. May hit it with some high grit sand paper for smoothing. Still need to scribe in the lower section seam and some filling and sanding to do. If you see something I missed, let me know.
Looks like it's coming along nicely. The trigger area was sanded down perfectly. You will also need to trim a little off the old rubber trigger with a sharp razor. Go slowly though and trim a little at a time until it is shortened just right. If you take too much off it won't work correctly. I made that mistake once.![]()
Thanks spacerone! It has been an adventure so far and it is really thanks to all the people that have participated in this thread and shared their builds, pictures, tips, and ideas. Thanks for the idea on the trigger trim. I did go ahead and order some zynolyte dark gray primer - so I'll be waiting on that a bit for the painting. Just had too much difficulty finding a gray that I felt was dark enough to my liking for the p1.
That's what I'm using on mine. Go light on the coats, the zynolyte paint takes a long time to fully harden.
I put the try me tab back in place, just need to trim the rest of the bottom edges so they will be level for the new metal rails.

Nice smooth work there! I've yet to put mine back and was considering whether I needed to support the backside of it with a strip of thin styrene before I do the fill.
Yeah it will need some support, you could try the styrene behind it or just put some JB weld behind it.
. Put a light coat of paint on and good golly was I wrong. lol
Sanding is a road, not a destination.:lol
Chefs cover their mistakes with Mayo. Doctors cover theirs with dirt. Rookie would-be modelers cover theirs with lots of paint. :lol
Thought I'd take some time to update on my phaser upgrade project. As you know, this is time consuming and for a rookie....time consuming, difficult, and a learning effort. I've already discovered things that work for me....and things that don't. Still have a long way to go but I'm getting there. I don't have any new pictures mainly because I've spent most of my time working on this. I'll get some up soon.
My time is growing less and less in the evenings as yard work and gardening time has arrived.![]()
I realize the above comments were posted years ago, but "The Tressaurian Intersection" is finished and released. That's sad they did not finish it, they did a good job on it. Very accurate set. But at 1 episode every 5 years they would have to replace the actors every other episode.Sadly, the last act of The Tressaurian Intersection is not done. It's hard to say if he will ever finish it....
