Art Asylum / Diamond Select TOS Phaser build with metal parts.

That's amazing Chris! I glued and painted my lego phaser (all black with silver to mark railings, emitter, and p1 wheel and p2 knobs) and I'd say it was about 1972. Think you got far more detail right than I did. I wish I had it or even a picture of it. Memories. Back then kids had to use imagination to create their fun didn't they?

That phaser 1 is looking good Spacer. Are you doing a specific build this time?

That Aervoe Zynolate primer doesn't seem to grow on many store shelves. Seems a little hard to find if you don't want to purchase it a case at time. Any suggestions? You can always send me a message here if you can't post a retailer. All I've got to do now is finalize the order with Tony at FP and I'm all done with the ordering.

I think.

All I have is this fuzzy picture of it; I sold it to a dude at the next Con for $50- BIG money back then!

Definitely!

As always for me, rattle can composites. I make it up as I go.

I got some of the Zyno but I didn't like it, too rough and chunky. It is a primer after all. I just mix black and white satin paints to match then use my spray gun. And Duplicolor Dark Shadow Gray BFM0630 looks like the perfect handle color.

Handle.

Delta Vega the p1 will look like the one in the photo with the zynolyte paint, not sure on the handle color, may try black this time. When you order those parts you should ask Tony if he has a spare can of zynolyte paint lying around.

I came across something interesting today in regards to the screen used black & white phaser. While wandering ebay, I came across what appears to be a black & white (possibly scratch built) phaser being sold from a collection. One thing I noted was that on the phaser one, the metal wheel that we normally see used to rotate and lift the targeting hood/aspirator was instead slid forward (it had a slot cut into the P1 housing) to raise the hood/aspirator. The P2 body had 4 ribs on one side versus the normal 3 on the other. Other than that, this was fairly close to what I have observed from screen stills of the black & white.

So, I pulled out my DVD's and watched "The Mantrap" as I knew that gave some decent views of the B&W with hood up and down. When you see Kirk's phaser on his side, The P1 metal wheel appears in the normal place opposite the 2 buttons or raised plastic selectors. Later, when his hood is up preparing to stun Prof. Crater, it appears to be forward just behind the hood as if it was indeed moved forward to open the hood.

Has anyone ever heard or seen anything regarding the early B&W P1's having the wheel as a slide versus a wheel that is turned to open the hood? Also, in Charlie X you can see a good side view of the security guards phaser as it is being dematerialized. Those early P1's looked somewhat thicker/taller in the P2 body than later screen versions. It could just appear that way from the lack of the side rail on the P1. I just found it interesting as I re-watch these shows with the intent of looking closely at the various phasers they used.

Ok....I think my eyes are just fooling me here. :facepalm

The slide mechanism theory is new to me, but from a builder's standpoint, I'd think it would be easier to build than the rotary method we're all used to seeing...

A little more progress on the p1, just drilled out the emitter tube and test fitted the new one.
Fits good but may need to shorten it a little if it sticks out too far once the circuit board is in place. My file is on stand by.:D

The "Enemy Within" gives some good shots of the top of the phaser angled toward the viewer. I could see fairly clear that there is no slot therfore no slide. I'm guessing the builder did what you suggested - an easier way to raise the hood.

First of 4 phasers arrived today. Not going to mess with anything until Tony tells me my parts are shipped. Tool bench is ready, camera ready. A few more days of waiting at least. This will be interesting.

After ordering all those parts, I'm broke too! :lol
