Armorer Helmets, Hammers, and Armor Parts from the Mandalorian **HAMMER MOLD PICS ON PAGE 4**

How do I get in on the heavy gunner helmet?

That'll be a separate sales thread once I've made more progress on the prototype. First I've got this lady and the Flametrooper helmet to knock out.

UPDATE: I made the molds over the weekend. Here's a stack of progress pics...

For this particular helmet, I decided to go with a matrix mold. This means that the prototype was mounted to a board and wrapped in plastic wrap, then covered in clay like so:

The clay determines the final shape of the rubber jacket. But first I make the mothermold. Here's the first half laid up:

And the second half:

Once the fiberglass mothermold had cured, it was removed from the helmet prototype and the clay was cleaned out:

Then the prototype was cleaned up a bit more and sprayed with a generous coat of release agent:

Then I mixed a batch of thickened silicone to pack into any overhanging areas that would trap bubbles when pouring rubber:

Once that was done the mothermold was put in place again:

Then the edges were sealed all the way around with hot glue:

Finally, the whole mothermold was filled with silicone:

It was still a bit soft when I checked first thing this morning, so it'll be a few hours before I can demold everything and pull the first kit. But unless something goes wrong it'll happen today.

Once I post pics of a cast kit, I will no longer be offering the pre-order price. So if you want to save yourself a few dollars on this helmet, don't delay.

If anybody else wants to get in on this run, please post here and I'll PM you with payment details.

Alright, folks, it's the moment you've all been waiting for. The other day I had a chance to stop what I was doing long enough to demold the helmet prototype:

The mold came out gorgeous, so I dusted it with a layer of gold tinted bronzing powder and cast the first kit. That came out gorgeous as well:

Here's the first four raw casts:

The two on the right are cold cast in bronze (the dark one) and brass (the greenish one):

I'm not especially crazy about how that came out. It adds a lot of weight and a lot of material costs without a lot of payoff in the final finish. I don't think it's worth the trouble.

That said, I'm thrilled with the rest of these guys. Here's some close-ups:

Last night I rushed through trimming and fitting a visor to casting number one. I like it:

So these ladies are all boxed up and ready to ship:

I'll be invoicing folks for the balance plus shipping in the order in which deposits were received, so if you're on the list, keep an eye on your Paypal email inbox.

Since I've now posted pictures of the kits out of the mold, I'm no longer offering the pre-order price.

If anybody else wants to get in on this run, post here and I'll PM you with the details.

They look great well done...Will be standing by for the balance requests. Looking forward to this one....

Can't wait to see the finished pics. I'm in the process of finishing eight of these ladies right now. So the race is on...

Forgive me for being out of the loop, I haven't been on here in years but the Mando got me going again.
Will you be doing a Din Djarin helmet?

If you’re doing another run I’m interested! Thanks!

I'm not, but there are a lot of makers who are. The one I'd recommend is Sean Bradley. yd

Helmet arrived! Thank you so much....Now to weather and display....this is the way!!!!

Don't forget to post pictures when you get it all finished.

Speaking of finished, we're making progress on the first handful of finished helmets. Here's a pair with the weathering done:

I'm pretty happy with how they're coming out:

Wow! What an incredible helmet, your work is impeccable. I should have jumped in earlier for a finished helmet.

There's still room to get a finished helmet. I need to make a few more to fund the prototyping and molding of the rest of her costume parts. I''ve sent you a PM with the details.

If anyone else wants to get in on this run, please post here and I'll PM you with details.

So how much finishing is actually required on the kit? It looks like just installing the visor and weathering? If so, that's actually within my skill level and I might want one, haha.

The raw cast kits come out of the mold and ship untrimmed. They look like so:

All you need to do is cut out the visor section, trim the edges, install the visor and weather it. I suppose you might want to put in some padding as well. In any case, I've sent you a PM with the details for both versions.

EDIT: bear in mind, both the kit and finished versions include the visor in the price.

If anybody else wants in on this run, please post a comment here and I'll message you with details.

Please send me the details about the helmet.

How do you recommend attaching the visor?

PM Sent.

The visor can be glued in using epoxy or CA-adhesive. You can block it in place with steel putty or hot glue it. If you're not sure how you want to do it, you can always get away with taping it in place.

If anybody else wants to get in on this run, please post here and I'll PM you with details.
