Are there any tutorials out there for making a Mark X tricorder holster? And also what military clips were used?

Is it as simple as this? Vut your plastic out to shape.. Heat yp and wrap around a form (would a block of carved wood work?)

Imagine the corners rounded for forming.

What plastic to use? How does one glue the edges together? Would the "glue weld line" require black touch up paint?

Thanks.

For quick and dirty that should work. Use ABS black plastic. I always like 5 min epoxy. Make sure that the back piece goes all the way up the length of the tricorder. "Alice" clips are what you're looking for.

I believe the originals were made from haircell Kydex. Kydex is fairly easy to vacuum form, but can also be formed after heating with a heat gun, with a little patience. You can also use ABS, which is a bit cheaper from some vendors, but Kydex seems to be the "authentic" material.

ABS Replicas by Federation Surplus.

They mentioned the type of clip in one of the itsawraphollywood auctions, but I can't recall it at the moment.

Description:

A solid molded rubber hand scanner featured in various episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise with black and metallic silver paint with multi-colored accents and a black leather pouch with a Velcro flap and attached ‘Bianchi International Universal Military Holster’ clasps on back for attachment. This excellent prop was intended for background player use and measures approx. 5.5 X 2 X 3.5 inches.

The type of clip used on the mark X holsters is called an ALICE clip (All purpose lightweight individual carrying equipment). If you find a decent surplus store their should be quite a few around there. They're used on almost everything manufactured for the military meant to attach to web belts and 782 gear. Here's a site that sells them. I haven't done any business with them, but you should be able to find these at most any army surplus website. Good luck with the holster.

That's right. Looks like I didn't Ctrl+C properly and I had an old link in my clipboard. Sorry about that. Yeah, MGM is right, though.
