Are there any actual FANS of Star Wars still?

I'm being facetious, of course there are, but the most vocal fans are the ones who refuse to accept the PT and, to a lesser extent, the EU as anything even remotely resembling Star Wars. So I mean ALL of Star Wars: OT, PT, Clone Wars, and the EU. I want to hear from those of you who love SW in every aspect of the Universe, story-wise. That's not to say you can't think that they misstepped along the way, but that as a whole it entertains you.

So sound off, I'd like to hear your thoughts. And let's everybody please be respectful, we get enough hate on other threads.

I've never known anyone who liked EVERYTHING Star Wars. But let's be clear here, if you do indeed mean "all" of Star Wars then that is also going to refer to the Holiday special, Angry Birds, and every single merchandising item ever manufactured. So since I don't like the pez dispensers I guess I cannot speak on this topic.

I am a big-time Star Wars fan! Aside from the movies, I have read MOST of the novels published... my count is up to over 200. I haven't gotten into the TOR era novels, yet, but I am sure I will. I have even read books that cover specific aspects like the religion of the Force, books that profile the psychological aspects of the characters... I disagree that to be a fan of Star Wars "as a whole" you have to buy into the marketing aspect, like games and such. For me, Star Wars has become something of a philosophy that I try to live by. I don't look beyond the surface much... I'm not interested in memorizing the biography of the individual authors; I don't need to know who played Chewbacca in ep.V, ect... I feel a personal connection to the characters and take great interest in their lives, fictitious as they may be. They all have very real human elements about them, even the Sith. I sulked for two weeks when Chewbacca was killed in THE NEW JEDI ORDER. I feel great sympathy for Anakin Skywalker. I could go on... The Star Wars universe is my favorite vacation spot. And I DO love the souvenirs! I have T-shirts, S/W Angry Birds. I built a lot of the models, collected a lot of the toys and figures, ect. I am a member of Astromich.net, starwars.com, ect. But my interest in the fan-fare is no different than buying a snow-globe when one visits Pike's Peak, in Colorado. It is just "stuff" to me. The story is what is important. I am definitely a fan. My son, Anakin, can attest to that! ;)

Ok I realize I didn't say this in the original post, I didn't even think about getting that specific. But I meant story-wise and not toys and other merchandise. I have edited the original post to eliminate confusion.

I can enjoy the prequels for what they are, as opposed to what I want them to be.

And I like Angry Birds SW, too.. hehe.

I don't need to know who played Chewbacca in ep.V.

Dude, I'm sorry, but anyone who does NOT know who played Chewbacca in ep.V, or any of the other episodes for that matter, is NO devout fan of Star Wars.

As for me, fandom of the stories breaks down this way...

ANH and ESB are pure gold.
ROTJ is a big drop off from those two, but it has its moments (mostly between Luke and Vader).
ROTS is very good, but far from what I'd hoped it would be. It's different than I'd imagined all those years, and so while I know it's technically "Star Wars", I kinda view it as a separate franchise from the OT, especially eps IV and V.
AOTC is largely forgettable.
TPM made the mistake of featuring such a young Anakin--he shoulda been Luke's ANH age through most of the movie. And the movie suffers for it dearly. And yet, I love the Duel of Fates, Qui Gon, and the Pod race is kinda cool.
TSE contain some changes that are unforgivable (Greedo firing his blaster). Other than that, TSE contain a few cool changes, I suppose, but the movies (ANH and ESB) were perfect as is, so they didn't need changing.

THS is what it is. Absolutely dreadful.
TCW I'll concede is well made, but I never did find the style of animation appealing. And I'm not big on cartoons, generally.
EU has no interest for me, whatsoever.

Not sure what "Angry Birds" are. But I bet I wouldn't like them.

The PT doesn't bother me at all. Do I like it? Not particularly, but it doesn't bother me. Clone Wars isn't my thing but the quality of program is quite good from the stuff I have seen and I think it's a good addition to the franchise. I've read a bit of the EU and what I have read has been just fine (read back in the early-mid 90's). I also like Angry Birds SW and I'm cautiously optimistic about the new trilogy...

The ONLY thing that I really get my back up about is the Special Editions. They bug the hell out of me.

I would say though that "overall" I'm definitely still a fan. :thumbsup

I agree that the animation style of Clone Wars is mildly off-putting...i would definitely prefer more realistic-looking characters instead of the angular faces. But the stories work well within the Star Wars universe.

Angry birds is a phone app game where you throw birds, that look like Star Wars characters in this instance, at brick walls. I tried playing it once but my tablet would freeze up every time i tried loading it, so I couldn't.

Except for the TCW and EU comments (I rather like both of the animated Clone Wars series', and I've read some of the books) I pretty much agree with The Wook here.

For me, the "meat and potatoes" of Star Wars is the movies, particularly the Original Trilogy movies; the rest is just gravy.

I have read much of the EU and can't say I loved it all but most of it has been enjoyable. I also liked the PT but more for the story and not so much as the actual films (if that makes sense). I never got into the CW because of the animation but have followed the storyline thru this site and others. All in all, I am still a fan, am looking forward to the new movies and and also future EU additions.

On a side note, I also wish I had the MIB device to wipe the Holiday Special from my memory

I never said I DIDN'T know who played Chewbacca... For that matter, I do own a Star Wars Trivial Pursuit game and could kick anyone's butt at it :)... I can appreciate your critiques, but it sounds like you are more into the cinematics and production than the story. Nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make you less of a fan. But those things aren't the story. They are the sticks and glue of the story, and nothing more. I was simply illustrating that, for example, the third key-grip in episode III act 4 scene 7 has nothing to do with the STORY of Star Wars. He did a great job holding that microphone, but what did he really do for the story? I'm not a fan cause I don't know who put on Carrie Fisher's lip-stick?!? Posh! I have been a loyal fan for more than 30 years.:wacko
