Are there any actual FANS of Star Wars still?

:D I love you, man! You got... Per-SO nal-ity!!!

I never said I DIDN'T know who played Chewbacca... For that matter, I do own a Star Wars Trivial Pursuit game and could kick anyone's butt at it :)... I can appreciate your critiques, but it sounds like you are more into the cinematics and production than the story. Nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't make you less of a fan. But those things aren't the story. They are the sticks and glue of the story, and nothing more. I was simply illustrating that, for example, the third key-grip in episode III act 4 scene 7 has nothing to do with the STORY of Star Wars. He did a great job holding that microphone, but what did he really do for the story? I'm not a fan cause I don't know who put on Carrie Fisher's lip-stick?!? Posh! I have been a loyal fan for more than 30 years.:wacko

Thank Goodness you know who played Chewie. You shoulda used a more obscure example, like who played Nien Nunb, or Bossk.

Okay, so why do you think I'm more into the cinematics and production than the story?

The ONLY thing that I really get my back up about is the Special Editions. They bug the hell out of me.
The visual enhancements in the SE's I like...Cloud City, the death Star fight, Mos Eisley etc. The Krayt Dragon call, Vader's "NO!" at the end of RotJ and especially that god-awful band performance in RotJ were not so welcome. The SE's don't bother me so much as it does many others.

For me the unforgivable stuff is things like changing the script in ESB. :thumbsdown

That's just what I got from your post. :unsure But I don't really know how big a fan you are, or what you are interested in from one post. I was presumptuous to assume. :$ Don't mind me... it's been a really long week. Have a beer! :D:cheers:D

And changing a major character's...well, "character", by having him allow a thug who's announced he's looking forward to killing him, has a blaster pointed right at him, fire his weapon before/at the same time he fires his (which is also pointed at the thug, under the table).

UN-FOR-GIVE-ABLE!

Do you mean the Emperor's dialogue?

And Vader's... Ya. :thumbsdown

Amen. :thumbsup

I agree with both these sentiments, however, threads like these can rapidly become out of control......

In '97, i loved the SE's as it was NEW Star Wars.....i've calmed down a lot since then and tend to watch Harmy's despecialised edition of SW...

The PT upsets me as it was such a colossal missed opportunity, however, we have a new trilogy to, hopefully, look forward to!

By the time Episode VII hits, everyone will be planning time off to stand in line for tickets to the midnight shows, regardless of how they feel about the special editions or prequels. The fever will get em.

Darth Vader Dances to "Beat It" - YouTube

But there goes a part of history. There's no point in standing in line for tickets anymore as they'll all be sold online. Best I can see these days is standing in line 3-4 hours to make sure you get good seats, that's about it. An considering it'll open on 8 screens or more at most theaters, 3-4 hours is probably a stretch at that.

Hell, i remember E3. I got out of work at 4:30, go to the theater at 4:40, walked right up to the ticket counter and bout a ticket for the 5pm show and walked right into a theater with 25 people in it. And this was opening day. By showtime, the theatre made about 65% capacity.

Now as to SW itself,

The OT is gold for me. I've got no issues really with ROTJ. It was designed to be exactly what it was, a grand finale' with a happy ending.

The only SE change that bugged me was Greedo. LOVE the shot of the falcon flying up and out of the bay. Like the additional and less rigid fighters heading to the death start etc. ESB, sorry, but Ian is 100x better than monkey emperor. Dialog change doesn't bug me much either as it more fits the overall story. Cloud City, if you have a city there it'll be full of windows. Like that change, sorry. ROTJ, new ending better than yub-yub. Hayden has NO BUSINESS being in it. Luke would be saying, 'who's the goofy kid?'

I think it was said best earlier when the PT was described as a missed opportunity. I kinda like TPM, especially Maul. It should have started with Anakin at Luke's ANH age where cracks were starting to show in his jedi-worthiness. AOTC was good just for the arena fight. ROTS was pretty good. Yoda/Emperor great. Mace and Jedi getting punked by the emperor and dork boy, not so much. The fight between Anakin and Obi - meh. It partially lost me in fighting on the fallen tower over the pit of MAGMA and then totally lost me on surfing and fighting on MAGMA even though they'd have been totally cooked from the heat. And just when you thought it couldn't get worse? "I've go the high ground".

Here's hoping that everyone gets it right on ST.

Well there will definitely still be a line to get into the midnight show!

I love all the movies. I do have my favorites from each(OT & PT) but I enjoy them all regardless.

I did decide recently that I was done with the collecting SW aspect because of all the hate from fans that was happening. I just got tired of reading it all the time. It breaks my heart, really does. But I will support the new films by seeing them in the theaters and buying the 3D Blurays, but beyond that I'm not that much into it.

Star Wars influenced me so much throughout my life that it will always be a part of me.

I disagree. Box office servers can't handle order numbers of that magnitude coming all at once.

My group camped outside the theatre for five days, being second in line. We got free muffins, sandwiches and pop-corn from the theatre and a coffee-shop nearby, and we handed out what was left to others in line. Several of us were interviewed by reporters, one was writing a book about fandom and devoted a chapter to us. Over here, seats are booked when ordering tickets and we got the best seats in the best theatre for the midnight showing. We celebrated with champagne and cup-cakes. When we left, there were still at least a hundred people in line.
On the night, a couple of hundred people showed up for the official pre-movie party. The theatre was booked to 100% capacity and practically everyone was a fan. There were quite a few people in costume. The projectionist showed trailers from all previous movies before the movie started, to cheers from the audience.

I hated ROTS. The opening shots were very nice (stolen from Genndy Tartakowski's The Clone Wars cartoon series...), but the magic was lost as soon as Ewan McGregor got a closeup and made a face like "Oh this movie is just sooo stupid". The transformation of Palpatine and the fall of Anakin were just ridiculous. The end duel was very disappointing, as was Padmé in the movie.
To me, ROTS is the worst of the prequels. What happened before I saw the movie was much better. :)

I liked ROTS. But again, I think of it as an entirely different franchise from ANH and ESB.

I do agree with you that Anakin's turn was lame. But I do NOT agree with you that the Emporer's transformation was lame...on the contrary, it was the rawest, most compelling part of the film.

The problem is that the primary theme of the film was supposed to be Anakin's turn, not Palpatine's coming out--and the later most definitely stole the show from the former. The contrast was especially salient since they occurred simultaneously.

I can enjoy the prequels for what they are, as opposed to what I want them to be.

This is where I'm at with it too.

The Prequels tell the story George wanted to tell, and they do it more cohesively than I think most people give them credit for.

I think they're all enjoyable films, some more than others. But I have my favorite parts of Phantom Menace too.

Clone Wars I think is great. The film was a bit like they threw 4 episodes in a blender, but I think it evolved into the best modern iteration of Star Wars. The stuff they were doing in that show was excellent story telling, and they had great characters. The subject matter was really dark for a "kid's show" as well. I was really impressed by it. I'm very bummed that the series is ending now, and especially bummed for no more screenings at the Letterman Digital Arts center which were always fun.
