Lucky you! How did you get there?

Will you share your images with us?

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Handled Real Moon Suit! 2/1/2014

I'm eager to see your report, as I started working on an A7L too!

Holy shmoley!

I await your story with the utmost anticipation.

Incredibly jealous!!!!

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Handled Real Moon Suit! 2/1/2014

Outstanding!!!

So let me confirm my suspicions, To keep the PLSS from pulling backwards and up, it is tethered to a connection point under the plss RCU then down to around the groin area on the under suit.

The PLSS RCU is held in place via a separate attachment point.

Correct?

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Handled Real Moon Suit! 2/1/2014

That's remarkable! :ninja

Kudos on your fantastic replica, and also kudos on examining screenused– ..errr.... SPACEused pressure suits! :D

I think these images will answer your question.

Hey there, longtime lurker here. The detail on this is incredible! Ive had the chance to wear actual spacesuit components and id say these are about as visually close to the real thing as you can get without spending too much. Any news on when you will be selling the bubble helmet and eva helmet? On a further note, the exterior cloth of the EVA suits is actually Betacloth (woven teflon-coated fiberglass) ripstop nylon has the wrong texture. Id suggest getting a woven nylon fabric as it will closely match the actual suits and also be more durable. Again, MASSIVE kudos your way for this amazing build!

Update on eventual kits:

Over the last few months I have been working on a vacuum former with my friends. We just recently finished, and you can see it in action here:

2StoryProps: ProtoForm Build: Our New Industrial Vacuum Former

This was one of the main things holding me back from making new visors, as our 14 x 14 machine had a very bad success rate. With this new machine I can make reliable, thicker pulls, with is a requirement for the new suit.

After examining the real suits, the only casting I am currently happy with from my previous build is the boots. The new suit will have any new scuplts and castings, and a few more bells and whisltes. If I can do what I am planning, it will put my old suit to shame.

So when will it happen?

At the moment I am still living in an appartment and the shop I perviously built stuff in has implemented some new policies that make it very dificult to work there effectivly. I am planning to move to a house in the next few months so I want to wait on starting this until I finally have my own shop. In the mean time I am working on a different sewing project to keep me occupied and test out the duct tape manaquin that will be used to size the padding on the new suit. My goal right now is to start working in eranest on the new suit some time after Dragon*Con 2014 with the goal of being ready some time in 2015. At that point I'll try to make kits avalible for those who are interested.

And thank you for the woven nylon suggestion. it is something I will definatly look into.

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Handled Real Moon Suit! 2/1/2014

There havent been any news in development as Im caught up looking for a new house, but I took the suit to Momocon this weekend and had a blast. Here are some pictures I've been wanting to take since I first built the suit.

Re: Apollo A7L Jim Lovell's Moon Suit, Handled Real Moon Suit! 2/1/2014

This might be a question out of left field but could you give me the dimensions of the Apollo suit glove connectors, I know you have measured the real thing, I have searched the internet for this and have come up with nothing, I have tons of pictures and diagrams but none of them have any dimensions on them.

I measured the wrist ring to have a 3inch id on the glove side. Hope that helps.

It does, thanks, I can scale the drawings and get the other dimensions. It's smaller than I though,it looks 4.5 to 5 inches, I guess everything looks bigger in pictures.

My experience making this suit was that everything seemed like it would be bigger than it turned out to be, but then you also have to keep in mind due to volume constraints things did not need to be bigger than they had to. 3 inches is just enough to get you hand through.
