After rewatching Apocalypto, I decided to finally bite the bullet and make this iconic knife.

I'm going to tackle the handle in mdf, and the blade will be painted flint.

Heres the initial shaping. Already I see some length errors that I will need to fix.

So...are you knapping the blade?
No, I bought a flint, but it came really crooked, so I'm going to get another. I planned on painting it black, then doing a coat of shellac to give it that obsidian look. IMG_3793.JPG

Some more progress...

oh the looks you get when you buy princess hair and you're a grown man!

my wife wasn't too keen on the carved faces, (especially if it was to be displayed eventually in our bedroom) so I opted on just doing smooth domes for the pommel piece. Not movie accurate now, but that's ok I guess. Happy wife, happy life...
So this is where it stands now. Waiting for my flint to come in the mail.

Re: Apocalypto Dagger

I tried mapping out the details of this a long time back...never finished it.

I always wondered, was this supposed to look like it had been carved out of wood.....or bone?

Re: Apocalypto Dagger

Well, the new flint came, so I painted it, and sprayed it with shellac to give it more of an obsidian look, and I'm really happy with how it came out! Handle color is still not quite right, so I might tweak that in the near future.
