Anyone see Daft Punk's Grammy helmets?

i've spent ages trying to get a daft punk helmet, and research chroming and airbrushing and things.

Then they go and start wearing really cheap looking grey plastic helmets.

Dammit :)

They actually appear to be gloss white to match their suits. I would imagine those helmets were specifically for the Grammys. I have no doubt they likely have several versions of those helmets for any given occasion.

I saw them as gloss grey, but light grey, let's not fight about it :lol

they just looked like really cheap and nasty versions. Like the whole things were vac formed or something.

Definitely not up to their usual standard for publicity. They're like helmets i'd expect they'd wear around the house on a day off :)

They have several helmets they go between. I wouldn't get hung up on one set.

I personally really liked the white suits and white helmets. But I will always think of Daft Punk as silver and gold.

Haha, it's not as if they do that many set's we shouldn't get hung up on them. Those work-shy robots :lol

I'm a big Daft fan, i'd have one of every variation of helmet if I could.

Just bloody typical that as soon as I'm within spitting distance of having the chromed versions they go and wear helmets someone's gran could whip up :)

i think they looked a bit plasticy and cheap, but that's my opinion. I'd have thought with their success they'd have upgraded to solid gold and silver or jewels or something.

They kinda look like casts fresh outta the mould.

I may actually make 3 casts of the Thomas pep I'm working on and do one up in gloss white, one in just chrome, and one in chrome with the full outfit of lights.

Go man go!

the helmets i'm working on are currently flat primer grey, so not a million miles away from the grammy versions.

But i've just bought some alclad chrome stuff which i've got a strong feeling I'll botch horribly.

I guess a Stormtrooper helmet looks cheap and plasticy to you too?

Really? They're candy white with a gold tinted visor. How does that make them look cheap?

I saw them as white too. They didn't look vac-formed but they were thin like cast resin instead of fiberglass.

If I was going to have to wear one for the 3-4 hour duration of the Grammy taping I wouldn't want fiberglass either.

Loved the white just for the fact it won't cost 300-400 just in chrome to have a canon helmet ! They'll be popular at conventions also .

Just to restate what should be plainly visible to the naked eye: These helmets are gloss white. And they appear that way in all but the crappiest YouTube copies of their appearance.

Their wardrobe is less white than their helmets... (And even that is technically white, but fibers never quite handle lighting like a solid surface does)

EDIT: And as a fan of Daft Punk since just before their Discovery era, I love this look. Definitely has a spacey feel to it...like NASA consulted on it.

I agree, I think they look horrible compared to their out of control awesome usual helmets used on their cover art etc.

YEAH Someone who agrees with me. We are on the outside my friend. It seems daft punk could put paper bags on their heads and people would love it (and yes that was intentional :))

Love how i've said they look light grey plastic that's boring and others have said they look cherry-white and sexy. At least some folks are happy.

I've always felt Daft Punk had a level of mistique about them, even in Electroma where everyone had robot helmets it still looked special because of the chroming.

If everyone had one of these plain white ones it's just look like ... i don't know, a bunch of people in cheap white helmets.

I half expected the real daft punk in leathers to walk out at the end and slap those two imposters :lol

Agreed, not their best look. It was better when they were all about the mystery, now under Columbia Records they are doing publicity every week.

It was actually two imposters Peter Hurteau and Michael Reich were in the costumes, sadly Guy-Man's fear of flying keeps him mostly in europe but Thomas was in the US for it.
