Anyone see Daft Punk's Grammy helmets?

YEAH Someone who agrees with me. We are on the outside my friend. It seems daft punk could put paper bags on their heads and people would love it

...you might need to read up on your Daft Punk history a bit. They have basically done exactly that before. It's not about the helmets it's about creating a character focused solely on the music (Why the robots never speak) and removing the celebrity mystique. By idolizing a particular helmet, you're just playing into that second aspect of it.

Here are the guys with bags on their heads:

And here they are with aluminum foil covering their faces:

These aren't even all that old. (The bags are from their Electroma days) For me it's amazing that two people could create amazing music and still be adverse to showing their faces...even now when they're are their current peak. It has to be tempting, but they still stay silent (Whether with helmets or bags) and keep it about making good music.

Did you just choose to not read the '(and yes that was intentional :))' bit?

aha just re-read and noticed not only did you decide not to read that bit you decided not to quote that bit too, still you managed to rhyme off what wikipedia says about daft punk so you must be pleased as punch :lol, that kind of info doesn't come up as often as we'd like in normal conversations eh.

Fixed.....

:confused

:lol

in that pic they look white, in the youtube vid they looked grey to me, but that could be because my eyes have a healthyl layer of paint and dust on them.

they look better in this pic, but still plasticy, speaking of star wars helmets they didn't make darth vaders helmet all black because it'd look lame. So yeah i still think they look cheap.

again, couldnt see the gold when they were performing (on youtube)

In my defense it was late and I was doing about 8 other things at once. My reading comprehension goes down in those scenarios. :lol

That is actually how I speak in normal conversation...I don't think I've ever even been to the Wikipedia page for them. Why? Well, I've been following them, their music, their art, and their philosophy of performance and celebrity for years. I don't need Wikipedia. Though thanks for trying to "catch me"...doing what, I don't know.

And as as I said before, don't go by the YouTube videos for color!

I too am a daft punk fan, but im obviously doing it wrong by watching their videos on youtube, i should have checked every photo available from multiple sources. Imagine my embarresment when something i thought was light grey was actual white :sick

Shame your default was to be pretentious instead of reading. I dread to think what the other 7 things you were doing were.

I apologized for my hastiness. No need to go down this road, by calling me pretentious and making broad insinuations. And not that it's any of your business, but most of the other things I was doing were work-related.

Let's move on.

To help do that, here are some nice big shots of the robots accepting their award at the end of the show taken from a 480p copy. (I still haven't pulled my HD copy onto this computer yet)

So, now anyone who sees this thread can answer yes to the titular question.

I also apologise. My apologies. My back was probs up because I'm a Daft Punk dork, which i'd hoped had come across with my paper bag joke.

Well resolved everyone.

Nice pics. Still a fan of the HAA/Alive07 get up though :lol

I think I don't like that they look so plastic-y. Like the idea of NASA-esque white and gold but these just don't do it for me. I think maybe just a black wash in the panel lines to bring out the definition or something would help.

And I promise to try to limit myself to just 7 things at once when I'm up at 2AM working. :lol

A dark wash would be interesting to see, since it would stand in such stark contrast to their move towards increasingly crisp/sterile looks.

...or maybe just some NASA mission patches to really push things more in the "space" direction.

Not sure if you played metal gear solid, but the Ninja on that has a plain white gloss helmet, but he looks cool. Possible because of the rest of his outfit being blue and orange, but also having a light up eye and some like warning text decals or something. So yeah. I think some NASA patches would look neat.

Something like a cross between these two with LED eyes.

I agree. I don't have a problem with the IDEA of the color scheme, it's the execution. It looks fake.

I'm not positive a blackwash would be the best solution, but it would be a start. Something to give the illusion of actual material, and not the "vacuformed" look.

I'm thinking even just doing a slight color variation under shaded parts etc. Think Vader's helmet - it's not pure black, it's a bunch of different shades of black, grey, even muted silver to bring out definition. If they did some darker and lighter spots around the hills and valleys it would really do a wonder.

But let's face it - this thread is silly. These guys are music producers, not prop builders. They said, "hey, wouldn't it be cool if we showed up in all white?" and they left it at that.

Let's get on with our lives. LOL.

lives.........? what what what!? lol.

TBH I dont see them as music producers, I agree with NickFox that they're more kind of total concept artists. So for them do come out in, as you say 'fake lookin vac formed' (paraphrasing) helmets is a bit of as let down, given how rare their appearences tend to be (although not so much lately, it wont be long til they have COLUMBIA printed on their forehelmets. I think its because for once their helmets look worse than ones people on this site are making.

I wonder why this thread out of all the others on the RPF gets called silly? Don't we spend all our time on here discussing such trivial detals? Maybe that's just me. :lol

I think sometimes a subtle or less flashy design can make a huge impact. Are these over the top? Depends. If you are accustomed to the chrome bling bling robots then IMO them going the complete opposite direction is more of a statement. If you keep one upping yourself and continue to go in one direction then you get to the point of having to ride in on a unicorn whole twerking.. You get my point lol... Who are these guys again ;)

You're right!

I wanted them covered in diamantes and shooting lasers ********! :cool

I guess my main point is like Lutso said, white and gold would be fine, if it was done well, which I don't think it has been on this occasion, but it doesn't really matter, we're just chatting about helmets 'n that, such is our want.

It's silly because they do what they do not to make fashion statements. They could come out in all brown the next time around and accomplish the same thing they've set out to accomplish.

Picking apart the fashion of musicians should be left to TMZ or the E! channel. They make good music, they prefer to be anonymous, and they won an award. Those are the facts. Whatever else they do or how they do it are details that really aren't that big of a deal.

Next we should talk about how GM used to be fat.
