Anyone see Daft Punk's Grammy helmets?

It's silly because they do what they do not to make fashion statements. They could come out in all brown the next time around and accomplish the same thing they've set out to accomplish.

Picking apart the fashion of musicians should be left to TMZ or the E! channel. They make good music, they prefer to be anonymous, and they won an award. Those are the facts. Whatever else they do or how they do it are details that really aren't that big of a deal.

Next we should talk about how GM used to be fat.
I don't see it being silly at all. Look at the discussions over Spider-Man, Batman etc costumes from movies. There have been some really great Daft props made by members here. A prop is a prop no matter if it's in a movie or on a musicians head. So if you ate a fan as some here are and wanted to make the newest DP helmet then I can see this being a topic of interest. Just my opinion

I'm LITERALLY working on a helmet as we speak.

My main point is is it that big of a deal that they changed the color of their helmets for a single appearance? They've changed color and design a number of times and it's not been a big deal. It's not like they're going to be wearing white helmets forever- I'm sure the next time they do a big promotion they will be back to silver and gold. And even if they do stick with white, should it really detract from the gold and silver domes we've seen them in for over a decade now?

The only difference I see is the color. Specifically, they're not chromed. I see no reason to suspect that these helmets aren't from the exact same molds used for all the other helmets, just finished in gloss white instead of silver or gold chrome.

You didn't actually think those helmets were metal, did you? That's not glass, either.

It's my belief that the helmets were remastered for Tron: Legacy, and all helmets since then have their origins from those molds. (Likely pulled from a 3D print)

These white helmets are actually great reference materials since they don't throw specular anomalies like chrome does. I've already noticed a few interesting things on Guy Man's helmet, for instance.

So even if you don't like them, you can still learn from them.

I'm thinking they didn't want to be a distraction by wearing their usual flashy lighted helmets. They were most likely going for a more formal look to match the clothing/ I thought it was classy and not cheap looking at all. I liked it.

Haha, that's literally all they do :lol

I beg to differ there too :D

No i think the design, shape etc of the helmets are exactly the same, and didnt think they were solid gold. C'mon now you're being a bit silly. I also don't think Batman is made of shadows.

But i do think that these helmets look cheap and poorly executed stylistically.

Haha, robot helmets with gold visors are them not being flashy.

But I'm happy some people liked them.

Style wise I personally think this is a low point in the history of the helmets, but it's good to know some people really like them :)

In my last post I meant "flashing" lights, not "flashy". But either way lovelyandy, the helmets were in fact less flashy than their usual performance-used helmets.

I don't understand why ppl are so critical of their Grammy helmets? IT'S ART! They have had the robot look for decades and I like that they change it up a bit. I saw them perform in 1996 before most people knew who Daft Punk was and have seen the evolution of their costumes. I give them major respect for being different and artistic with their futuristic attire.

Music artists like Slipknot, Deadmau5, Daft Punk and heck, even KISS, all have my respect for thinking outside the box as far as stage costumes.

So respect to Daft Punk for another great costume at the Grammys!

I thought the Grammy helmets were awesome, it worked great with their performance. The white outfits reflecting all the lights when they did Le Freak, was very cool. Also good luck trying the gold visors, that's going to be fun to do.

Aside from all the needless bickering in this thread, here's something I've been working on.

Still looking for the perfect gold visor tint.
