Anyone planning on picking up the Target Helmets and "improving" on them?

Well, there are spray chrome system that are more involved than just a rattle can. The best thing outside of that will be Alclad or Spaz Stix

I bought the kylo ren helmet online and I'm going to try to mod the size a little bit if it doesn't fit me. One option would be to take off the velcro and push the back side of the helmet closer into the front and glue the pieces together again with padding or just simply add a lot of padding. If anybody knows if my options would work or if they have any better ideas, please let me know. Thanks :)

Here is mine so far.

Removed the inside pads, tore out the screen, got all the stickers/glue out and cleaned it up.

Put the two halfs back together, ran some painter tape along the seems to keep the seem as tight and lined up as possible.

Multiple layers of fiber glass on the inside, to join these two half and make one solid helmet.

I would say I glassed 90% of the inside. A lot on the side and back to make it more ridgid. Very happy with it. Feel ALOT more solid and it like a cheap plastic toy.

The taping was a good move, as the resin from the glass helped seal the seam, so minimal bondo will be needed on the outside to smooth over the seam.

Gonna bondo tonight, maybe print tomorrow and some sanding.

Trying to decide on hand painting the black, taping the black off would seem like a huge pain....

I got one of the stormtrooper masks at target during force friday and today I just finished fiberglassing the whole inside. My question is: what is everyone else planning on using for the visor?

Anyone going to tackle doing a run of accurate aerators (both the small Stormtrooper one and the larger Snowtrooper/Flametrooper ones)? I don't have access to a lathe yet to mill my own... :cry (even if I had accurate CNC dimensions...). I'm just going to get some hex perf for the mouth grille and Plasti-Dip it after I've got it bent to shape. Don't know if I'll back all of it off with breathable material, or keep that to just the mouth part and back off the "Joker slashes" with some scrap plastic.

Also, are the ones Target has early offerings from Rubies' full line that's coming out later this month? Will Target be getting the rest? Because, if these are the same ones I'm finding elsewhere, I'm going to go ahead and order from there, so as to not pay what look to be extortionist prices on Target's part.

You might reach out to one of the helmet makers that offer the Ep7 trooper buckets to see if they can help you out with those bits

Finally I can start working on something! Lucked out and grabbed it as soon as they put it out!

It is actually a really nice helmet for $30.

The helmet is three pieces (not including the visor) it is the front, back panels, and dome. The range finder and ear also come off but I'm talking strictly the helmet.

I may not even glass this one. Seems pretty sturdy actually.

Popped the range finder off and the helmet fell right apart. Guess I may glass it after all. :lol

I think any mods to these helmets needs some type of backing. Whether fiberglass or slushed resin. Im doing slushed easyFlo 120 on mine. Super strong stuff and will bond nicely to the plastic. A couple layers is just as hard as fiberglass.

If someone could get me some measurements I wouldn't mind trying my hand at one. I wanted to pick up a Stormtrooper bucket or two (so I could finally use a coupon) but right as I was going to order off their site its out of stock. And my Target got cleaned out fast. Infact I dont know if the even got these helmets in. Oh well, hopfully either mine will or their site will restock.

Funny you should mention that.

Slush casting is exactly what I did... If I can offer any advice, it would be to triple check you've closed the seams. I thought I had taped them closed pretty well and... Well, I didn't. :lol

If there is a way out, the resin will absolutely find it. It's what I get for trying to rush through it to get to the fun painting part. :lol

As for the damage, nothing major...just going to have to sand and repaint my silver layer a little. I was glad I caught the leak and closed it before it really became a problem.
