"We know him mostly through his work. He moves into bodies at
will. Once he possessed Dad, and we learned something about ourselves
there. We could have killed him, but it meant killing Dad,
and in the end, it wasn’t worth that. All of the stuff that works on
other demons doesn’t even make him blink. When he was possessing
Dad, we doused him in holy water and he didn’t even notice. He
doesn’t leave behind the sulfurous stink that most lesser demons
do, either, and ordinary demonic apotropaics like salt and binding
sigils don’t seem to bother him much. He will respect a summoning
if it’s perfectly carried out and the summoner has good manners,
which is typical of demons. We have a theory that they like to be
summoned, since it gets them out of hell, and don’t want to ruin
their chances at another vacation by dismembering every conjuror
who comes along. Plus,
most of them like to talk.
God, do they like to talk.
Most of them can be summoned
by a standard pentagram
doctored with the
right ritual candles and so
forth, but for the Yellow-
Eyed Demon, you need the
sigil of Azazel."

I'd love to start one of these. I'm currently looking for a good close enough leather journal that's refillable so I can slip the 3-ring booklet into it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or have an approximate size for the journal?
I found this 'close enough' but I'm looking for something better/closer.

I searched for long time for just the right journal, I gave up. Best bet is probably making it from scrap leather and a binder..

yeh...been frantically searching the web for a close enough leather journal to use for this project, but with no luck although I did come across the leatherjournals.net one mentioned above the other day and thought it could possibly be a good enough one to use. I'd love to have a really accurate one but appreciate that this may not be possible, so will go for a close enough, similar journal to the screen seen one.
I have that Supernatural book that was mentioned in a recent post, providing information, written in a stle of a journal, on all the monsters/legends etc......it's a great book and will come in handy for the journal contents. Totally worth it!!

There is also a book on Amazon called John Winchesters journal, or something to that effect. I haven't picked it up yet though as I hadn't seen any excerpts to know what is inside..

^ bumping up out of general curiosity... anyone working on one of these right now or maybe have some pics of completed ones?
This is going on my to-do list once I finish off my Firefly costume for Halloween. I used to have my own binder full of supernatural stuff waaay back in the day (like before the show even started), so I'm thinking I might have to try and find it and incorporate some of it into my project

This prop has been on my wishlist for a while now but unfortunately I'm still no further along. I'm still trying to find a leather journal of similar size with 3 rings, which I could then recover with the correct colour leather. I've come close, but not close enough.....but, I'm not gonna give up

I really like Sulla's book! I always imagined the Winchester's having something like Sulla's rather then the day planner type thing they use in the show. I'd really like to make my own...but I'm not sure where to start! lol I'm pretty handy at binding my own books, it's the content that is tripping me up. Any ideas?

What size paper did you use? Was it 5.5 x 8.5 or larger? Can you share the dimensions of your finished book?

^Seconded. I've looked at some standard sized binders but they always seem too large to be properly portable. I kind of always imagined John's being somewhat smaller so he could easily tuck it into a coat pocket or something to carry around

I went easy on my hunter's journal. I used ivory 8.5 x 11 paper. I did use a heavier weight than normal printer paper though. I just folded the sheets in half so I didn't have to do any trimming.
You can download a tutorial on binding your own book using mostly normal store bought items I made here. Admittedly it is for binding a grail diary, but you could probably adapt it for this.

I was poking around my uni bookstore today and came across the same one. I don't love the fabric on the inside, but the idea of a refillable cover seems to be an okay way around the day-planner conundrum that John's journal presents

Wow! I'm so happy I found this site! Sorry to bump an old thread. I've always thought it would be cool to make a book of some sort kind of like the Grail Diary, Winchester Journal, or the Book of Shadows. I picked up some small moleskine notebooks and decided I wanted to make a pocket size version. Sulla your book is AMAZING! I'm going through your album on photobucket and I am extremely jealous. Do you think you could PM me offering me a few tips?
