Any one try to "fix" the 11th Doctor's Sonic?

I don't think so since it stays in the same half open position throughout the scene, even while it's rolled about, kicked and thrown. Also, if it was an unmodified co this position would be impossible because the various springs would force it all the way open whenever it's not all the way closed

It's definitely modified, I removed the spring from my CO and can achieve that effect. If they removed the spring and the catch switches and glued the claws together it can basically extend and still have the claws as they are.

Has anyone bothered to ask RubberToe about this or are we all going to act like we know everything. I find this theory of using a CO toy as a prop on screen absolutely asinine as the props dept has many versions of the sonic made with different materials. Let's ask the man himself. Blimey.

Here I am!

At the moment the production have three hero sonics, two of which I made for the new series. When I was in the studios the other day to my horror the two sonics were super glued shut. This was because Capaldi does not want to flick it like Matt was. I think we saw it in the open position in the first episode but since then I haven't seen it open. The third sonic is one from last series and is not glued shut. They do use the toy version sometimes for shots when it's needs to be thrown, there are a few screen grabs around where this has been proven. It makes sense to use the toy and save damaging the hero props, 99% of people won't notice. I can say though that the toy version of the 10th sonic was never used, mainly because it was the size of my arm. We made a few dummy versions of the 10th which were cast off the original.
Hope this helps.

Now here's to Capaldi having a new sonic!!!!!!!!

Thank you for clearing the air Nick! I personally love the current sonic and it fits that 12 doesn't treat it or use it like 11. Looking forward to seeing what you come with when the time comes.
