Any famous folks in your family tree?

Captain Oates from the ill fated expedition to the South Pole lead By Captain Scott, was my maternal Grandmothers, great uncle.

So if I tell you I'm going for a walk, and could be some time, odds are I won't be back.:cool

Chloe Moretz is my second cousin. (her mom is my dad's cousin) What's funny is that we first saw her on My Name is Earl and always talked about how much she looked exactly like my niece. A few years later we come to find out who she actually was.

Also my uncle Alan Duke is head of entertainment for CNN (might not be the right title...) and is on tv just about every day. :)

I'm a direct descendant of Thomas Welles, the only man in Connecticut's history to hold all four top offices: governor, deputy governor, treasurer, and secretary - one of the drafters of the Articles of Confederation. Pretty sure we once owned most of upstate New York.

Then there was Daniel Wells who went with Brigham Young out to Utah - married 7 times. His son was the first governor of Utah.

and my aunt was in a little movie called Airplane. :)

We researched our family tree many years ago and found out we had a relative who was hung for being a horse thief---does that count?....I didn't think so....

Daniel Day Lewis is my second cousin once removed.
i am also related to Bram Stoker...

i haven't met either. One for more obvious reasons than the other!

I'm directly related to Sir Walter Raleigh. He was a badass lol. Basically introduced tobacco to Europe, Got his head lopped off too. He seemed to be a nut lol.

Distantly related to a French king who lived in the middle ages, but I can't remember which one it was.
Some generations earlier in that family line there was a pirate who was a national celeb in the 18th century. I am a descendant of that pirate's sister, though, and not directly to the pirate himself. (which my relatives on that side are keen to point out, because they don't want to be descending of a pirate ...)

Related on my mothers side through marriage to George Best, arguably one of the greatest football (Soccer for some) players of all time.
Also to Thomas Blake Glover who is considered a key figure in the industrialisation of Japan, had built the first western style home in Japan, founded Japan's first coal mine, created the first dry dock in Japan and helped to found a shipbuilding company that is now known as Mitsubishi also help found the Kirin Brewery. Commissioned one of the first ships for the Japanese Navy, brought the first steam locomotive to Japan. Rumored to be behind part of the inspiration for Madame Butterfly (His wife at least) and was presented with the Order of the Rising Sun. Statue in his honour remains in Nagasaki.
