Anovos Stormtrooper.... thoughts?

I meant more the overall shape, not the fine details. I've seen many bootlegs, recasts, knock-offs, Rubies and Don Post, that didn't get the overall shape correct.

I see, would love to see pics of a Anovos next to a RS which is the closest to the real deal, the whole eye section is wrong, mic tips are wrong, the screws, the ears ect.... even the shape actually, the flare at bottom rear of neck is different from screen used helmets, even the frown corners I don't see the very last dimple, its just empty.

Someone in the Facebook stormtrooper kit group posted a link to a gallery that shows the ANOVOS and RS helmets side by side from various angles..

Edit: Here's a link I'm not sure if it will work

Thank you! exactly what I was trying to confirm, ear shape, frown, eye lips, bottom neck flare completely wrong, how did they manage to miss the boat that much having access to the original prop is beyond me :confused

Are you sure that's an RS helmet? Doesn't look like it to me. Missing the bump on the forehead and right eye bump is too prominent.

The regret is comin' in full force now...:cry

Yep. I just bought the helmet because I didn't think I would be able to put the armor together on my own. In retrospect, at this price point, I should have just said screw it and bought the kit. If I messed it up, oh well, at least I didn't mess up RS armor that costs 3x as much.

Your concern about weathering and item storage is valid, but without specific examples it is vague and appears as a justification for correcting flaws that are not a result of weathering and storage. The head bump is on the plastic from the vac form and is visible on screen, albeit under enamel paint and slightly diminished. Less visible on others, as the vac form buck degraded over time during production, I've read. Not sure on the specifics of how the bump came to be though, but it wouldn't have happened after production unless the HDPE had been reheated (it looks like a thermoformed blemish)

Don't take it personally, just go read some more eye bleedingly long threads on other forums and understand why the RS armour is the choice for those wanting to get as close to the real thing as possible. I thought the same about idealising an ST helmet before I read all the info I could. Ultimate possible is different to ultimate available.

I appreciate your comments. The comment about the RS being for those wanting to get as close to the real thing as possible fits with what I was saying in the first place. Some people want as close as possible to the original prop as possible. Others want what they think the prop is supposed to look like. I have seen numerous props from Star Wars and other productions. Most of the time, the actual props are pretty disappointing.

I would expect most people would say the finish on the Stormtrooper armor is smooth. The replicas I have seen that are supposed to be very accurate look pretty rough. This is not what many people envision the armor looking like.

Stunt props and costumes usually are not intended to be seen up close. I see no issue with people wanting a cleaned up version of the stunt Stormtrooper armor that looks good up close. I completely understand that isn't accurate to the actual costumes.

I don't think it is correct to say one version of the armor is the best for everyone. The RS may be best for some and a more cleaned up version, such as the Anovos, may be best for others. It depends what the person is wanting out of the armor. Simply telling someone to buy one set because it is the gold standard isn't encouraging them to do any research or make a decision based on what they want. It would be better to point them to information explaining the differences in the different sets and let them decide which one is best for them.

James- What RS is that? It doesn't look like the usual RS. It looks smooth and clean with no bumps and the the shape is a bit different as well. Also it looks a bit smaller then the Anovos. In the Facebook comparison next to an RS it looks like the RS should be slightly bigger than the Anovos and not the other way around.

Not making any allegations, just curious as to what helmet you have there. I Have two RS and this one doesn't look like mine or the other I see online all the time.

I bought it from them in 2005, maybe 2006, when only the helmet was sold before they offered suits.

Gotcha. BTW- After I posted I didn't want you to misinterpret my tone. I was just honestly curious.

Is it bumpy? maybe the picture doesn't show the detail because of the distance and the lighting.

Overall I think the Anovos does a good job of capturing some of the quirks or the original, while also being slightly more idealized. For the price I think it's a great addition to the ST helmet arena.

It's not overly bumpy. I've had this for so long, is PR a screen used maker? Now that I'm thinking it might be a PR and not an RS.

That's a pretty damn good looking helmet.

Does anyone know how long the helmet kits will be on sale? I believe they ship in March... Will they become a stock item?

Definitely going to be picking one up. I would hate to wait too long and have them stop selling.
