ANH Vader helmet - an original casting surfaces in Australia?

My first impression.... no. If someone wants to spend $100,000 on that, he needs to sell it as quickly as possible.

Yeah. I'm not seeing it either, but then again, the Raiders of the Lost Ark fedora looks a LOT different now due to age and warping. You never know...

It looks a lot like a ROTJ dome. Similar to the one I have just done. The GS. But there is a lot of flare to the bottom of the dome as if it was pulled from the mould too early.

Man, I would be affraid to buy ANY prop that is supposed to be authentic and really used in a film. There are way to many great prop builders that capture every detail. I'm not saying one would make it for the intention of ripping someone else off, however it's what the 2nd or 3rd owner will do and that next owner may believe it was a real prop depending on how they got a hold of it. Scarry times for people willing to shell out money.

Apparently you have never seen real movie props ... which always look like crap, with scratches, dings, paintloss due to being on set ... it's quite possible the story to this helmet is true eventhough admittedly the dome is not ANH as has been suggested by others.

I have, and that's why I finish all my projects to look like crap! Lol no new and shiny in my collection please.

I don't think I'd be comfortable making any sort of definitive statements about this based on one decidedly mediocre photo. Cameras can play all kinds of tricks. Will be interesting to see how this plays out :)

Sounds like the lineage is easy to trace, so either it's got some sort of pedigree or it's a case of someone being mistaken (happens in families all the time) or it's a silly lie because the prop world is connected by the internet now and it would be found out in a second.

Also note that the article says it was NOT used on screen and that it was heavily played with. If my kids got ahold of that it would end up consisting of dust and a few unidentifiable fragments. If I'd had it when I was a kid it would have been spray painted different colors several times and then when I really got into Star Wars around age 12-13 it would've been badly repainted black with a brush.

Yeah, definitely not ANH but could be ROTJ. The article does say it ended up in Australia in the early 80s so timing works. You never know, it could be the journalist who heard 'original star wars' and took that to mean ANH.
