ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Field Marshall's original run of steel Mausers didn't have all of the serial, safety and crown over U stamps, but I believe he does include them now on his more recent runs.

Does he now? I actually spoke to Chris some time ago and he mentioned that he didn't include any of those stampings, even though Scott had mentioned before that he did. So I've heard very conflicting information about them.

Either way, all I have left is cleaning some stuff up! And the stressful part; deepening the bevels I just worked so hard to align!

That looks great!!! You didn't have any issues with the thread positioning when you essentially lengthened the threaded portion a hair?

I'm actually really impressed, that looks like the exact profile of the muppet blaster lol

Also thanks guys for the explanations about this technically being a rifle barrel. Makes a lot more sense now, and as a hobby machinist and not a real one, I'm very impressed with how well they mated the barrel to the upper

What I said was that the FM Mausers currently come with the upper serial and the Waffen Stamps... not the proofs. The earlier ones did NOT come with Serial 2813 on the upper... but they should now.

Thanks Scott, I'm glad to have that cleared up. I was more than a bit confused about FM's newer steel C96 models, though it's nice to have that dispelled. I'd honestly be happy to get a second steel C96 from Chris eventually! But Not until after I get my first one done.

And yes, I still want to get it in your hands soon - I just keep coming up with new reasons not to mail it yet haha

Spent a little more time refining this bull barrel, and I think it's starting to get somewhere. Grinding on the milled bottom to be parallel with the C96 uppers recess really helps sell the look.

There's still a BIT of a lip, but I'm not sure how worth it it is to chase after.

Vanitas That looks pretty spot on to be honest. There is a lip underneath where the Mausers meets the BB anyhow on the film prop itself if that’s what u mean?

Perhaps I should clarify; the lip on the Hero prop was caused by the raised portions to either side of the "trench" as seen here. This "trench" is what the milled flat of the bull barrel should be level with; and a LOT of replicas have the milled barrel bottom hang too low for this.

Vanitas no need to clarify.. I’m with ya! ;)

It’s one if the reasons I design my own parts. You can get them exactly how you want them..

Honestly the more I see of them the more I find myself really liking the look of some of your parts. I think your scope mount, even if 3D printed, looks a lot better than my own steel scope mount assembly!

I'm still hoping that Dave over at DEC will offer up a new run of steel parts sometime this year; his original run pieces are as rare as hens teeth and both Todd' and Chris' mounts are a tad wonky in different ways haha

Thank you Vanitas.

This whole thread is a North Star and the ANH Hero mount is IMHO the golden egg for blaster build replicas. Still not fully happy with where I’m at to be honest but starting to appreciate the fact that I never will be either. Cheers to the complement!

I do hope for people who want metal DEC does in fact ventures into a new run of that elite mount. It looks pretty darn close to being perfect and it’s truly incredible to think it was made so long ago. I’m sure there was a lot of hands in play but the two people who started this thread deserves all the credit for opening this Pandora’s box I believe. But with so many vultures entering into the fray I can understand maybe why they wouldn’t want to do so.

BF mount no matter what you may hear or read studied the heck out of my old mount (2017 pictured below). Physical prints & STL files.. it was never a two way street in that regard. My mount also never looked like that original inaccurate MR mount. Give me some credit here. It’s a shame what is happening on that front. No one seems to care enough to even ask any real questions though.

Like why would someone who talks down about 3d printing ever take the time to “work” with a guy who 3d prints..

Also, before anyone comes in here unhinged or to someone else’s rescue.. Just as an FYI I do keep records myself as to who shops on my shapeways page, what they buy and the questions they ask in how to use them. Including greeblies ;)

If all I wanted to do was simply copy I’ve had plenty of opportunity..

I’m not saying I’m perfect and if you want to crucify me then go ahead. I’m sure you can find your native to do so. But I think it’s pretty clear my journey is definitely different..

With all the wonderful research and builds people are doing in this thread, forgive what may be a dumb question:
What's with the flat shapes on the mount on the gun side? Are those just spacers between the upper scope rings and the rounded scope mount below?

I see a lip where the rounded shape, similar to the upper scope rings ends and the flat sided chunk begins. Am I wrong? Im not sure I've seen that discussed.

Thats the lower half of the scope ring/cradle! It used to look like the part above but, for whatever reason, has been ground flat

Yeah, for some reason they were ground flat (and not very evenly at that). I would assume there were clearance issues between the back of the cradle and some other gun at some point in its history, so someone at Bapty just ground on the mount a bit to resolve it.

So the lower shape was made rounded at first but we are saying they cut into that to make the flats and That's what the lip is? Just where the mill cut into the round?

I think you are getting two separate parts of these recent conversations rolled into one. The lip conversation is about under the front of the Mauser..

The flats are this part as an FYI..

The scope mount ring ears were ground flat to allow clearance for the Mauser. The full round lower ears must have been contacting the Mauser in ST or ANH so Carl flattened them to allow clearance.
