Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion
...thought I'd post an update of the Grill.
Looking good but not 100% yet. I have made corrections and will get a new one shortly.
Fit on my Denix is perfect and overall look is good, just need to adjust some minor details to match Carson's outstanding 3d model.
This piece is really a bit complicated in that we are trying to replicate a cut up and glued together set of fins that were all off center on the original HERO.
All previous attempts at making this part did so on the premise that the fins were all concentric and even with straight walls.
We have shown that this is not the case and these pics show that the profiles match very accurately to the HERO. Some of the fins are thicker than others, just like the HERO and CommLink/MerrSonn part.
This part is being replicated exactly as the HERO so that the top section is actually off center and not concentric with the lower sections as seen in some of our previous posts.
Making this part this way is not as simple as just turning it on a lathe. It needs to be turned on 2 separate centers with tapered fins and tube walls and then cored out to allow the Mauser body to fit.
Carson also made the bottom of the Grill to appear as the real bottom of the "CommLink" part, as a tube for even greater accuracy.
Please note the very slight steps and edges replicated from the HERO.
When this part is perfected it will be a thing of beauty!
let me know what you think.
