Holy Thread Progression, Batman!

Wow, things move fast around here. Nice work kpax--I like how you've also incorporated the proof marks!

Thanks, I think I'll be putting in more proof marks in "Galactic/Aurebesh" alphabet.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

"Almost there..." wait - yours?

You don´t like ROTJ blasters, how could it be yours? :confused
Ääääh, wait again - it is mine and i don´t like ROTJ blasters - strange world. :lol

Without kidding ....... i have Kurtys lower Receiver and i have my MGC, i´m waiting for Markus MGCs - so i can mill all the side greeblies at the same time. And i´ve still no accurate blueprints of the flashhiders.

UUps, didn´t know you are waiting for my lowers.
Have to check something with kurtyboy first before sending them out.
Thanks in advance!!!

Here´s a comparsion between the MGC and a real C96 to visualize kpax´measurement differences between the two:

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Pat, we need to reconsider the barrel length.

As the frontpart of the original receiver is shorter, more so when turned down, this difference should be keept in mind when working on the barrel.

Turning down the receiver more and use the original barrel-length - or cheat and turn less and shorten the barrel accordingly.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I think thats right

If you want to keep the proportions of the HERO the length front to back of the top of the receiver is about is about .400 or 10.25mm and the width about .354 or 9mm (on mine I cheated and left it a bit wider than the real .2975 of Dcarty since the Denix is overall just a little bigger. The MGC seems even bigger so you should adjust accordingly.

The important thing I think is to keep the proportions. Most people don't cut back the receiver enough. I like to do a visual comparison between one part and another to check the numbers. Because of the variation between the REAL guns and props and our replica castings, MGC or Denix, we have to adjust the real numbers to "fit" our models.

Uh, Kpax, I think you might've had a problem with your picture, there.

Very strange. I've never seen anything like that before. ;)

Popeil sells the handy dandy pocket lathe for $19.95 plus S&H, of course the S&H cost $700!!

Kidding of course for those in EU, Popeil is a TV marketer of "inexpensive" but useful items.

I know not everyone has the same tools and or skills. I guess a pair of dividers and a good rule can get close to the size and then saw off the bbl at the proper length, (a little big) and file or sand to the line. A belt sander would save some time too.

A decent adjustable metal T protractor is a helpful iten for keeping things square.

After that a dowel or rod can be used after drilling an appropriate hole in the end of the receiver and Bull Barrel.

I would drill a bit oversized and when ready, use epoxy to center and secure the barrel

At least that's what I would do if I didn't have a lathe.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

could also use tape to get the receiver "squared" up and flat on the end

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

still can't edit that post. that's what happens when you try to paste a pic. sorry

every time i try to edit it ,-my browser crashes!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I just had an interesting thought. What if the Barrel is Tapered with the Flat area Level? If so, the flat area on the bottom would still appear to taper even with a straight, level cut.

Allot of rifle barrels have a taper to them, maybe it's similar to that. :thumbsup

What does everyone think? Possible?

I considered that as well. There are some barrels that do taper like that

posible, espec. since the barrel for the naked runner was a "rifle" barrel

good thought

waiting on the dvd!

I think that's exactly what it is.

I thought that's what everyone understood.
What was the other possibility?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Could have been/be a straight barrel and a tapered flat ground onto the bottom. The taper only has to go a few inches to allow the receiver to clear the frame.

But the tapered barrel and flat makes sense , although it would be a very slow taper.

The one shot from the naked runner shows the extension attached to the bull bbl, the end is smaller.... if it isn't an optical/angle issue or the bull barrel follows the taper too.

But as Lonepigeon said a long time ago in a Galax.. well you know, -He called the flat bottom. Think now he was right all along and Deadbolt pointed out again the taper barrel.

Could be either way but looks probable at this point.

The shortness of the barrel that shows behind the FH really wont matter much though.

Wont be able to tell it is tapered unless measured with a caliper. I'll bet it is less than .050 difference from the muzzle to the rear.
