ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

No sure. I want what looks best. ALso have another barrel that is less pitted that I might use.

Great work on this project!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

What do you think?

This is what I have for color:

Looks great to me, and I love the idea of anodizing them with their proper base colors.

Here's a big pic I have, which matches your colours, I think?

Does anyone know what the background of the set of that photo shoot was? Was it white by any chance? It has a slight magenta tint in this picture so the colors might not be accurate.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

I spent the past two days prepping and modding my Denix to match the details of the MGC as closely as possible. Put me down for 1 of everything you guys end up making.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

The flash hider almost looks like worn/aged bluing slightly polished over. Almost to the point of bare steel but still slightly dark, and with no rust for some reason. Shouldn't be a problem to mimic in anodizing, but might be difficult to mimic for the possible steel parts. Maybe a plating? Unfortunately steel parts may need to be offered raw, and hand finishing may be necessary for those.

The set to me looks like a light cool grey back ground. Maybe the same BG as these?

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Thanks for the input.

I color corrected my images based on the skin tone. The Solo pics do seem to have a blue/magenta drop in the background.

It looks to me that the steel parts have a deep blue/black or Belgian blue ing worn in spots.

The Brass parts have a blackening or paint also worn off.

The Grill most likely was either black plastic or painted black.

The FH looks lighter than the frame, like Deadbolt said, either worn off bluing or painted dull silver.

The real MG81 Fhs I have seen seem to have a heavy black coating that gets blown off by live fire as seen in some pics where the color is scratched off.

They may have wire brushed it and left it raw steel gray.

Since most of us will be refinishing to our personal taste, we only need to protect and give a base color to the raw material.

After researching, I have been thinking that anodizing may not be the way to go. Getting the colors we want may not be possible but I am waiting for samples.

I have found an industrial coating for raw metals that we can tint to get the colors closer to the Real prop and the coating will accept overcoating with paints for weathering etc. It is very durable as well.

I am looking into this in greater detail and will keep posting.

The first parts are under way!

We will be able to do Steel parts as well such as the FH and mounts.

I will be posting HD pics as soon as I get them.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Wow! I have now spent close to three hours looking trough the length of this thread and I am amazed at the attention to detail, and the work put into this. (I almost wnet and threw away my little plastic softgun dl-44ish thingy that is not accurate anywhere, that I have worked on for quite some time. But I lack all skill, and all the good tools to do a good job)

I just now that if these parts get a run or two, they just have to be expencive in a way that I cant talk myself into buying (please let them be affordable)

Looking forward to more updates on this.

...I am hoping to have something to show mid next week!

Keep fingers crossed!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Does anybody here happen to know the law when it comes to replicas? It seems to be a tough area to find the correct information..:rolleyes

Like in this case, would adding the Hensoldt Wetzlar etching on the side of the scopes cause legal issues? And are there any major requirements/restrictions on making visibly accurate, non-firing C96 bases?

If anybody knows anything about this sort of thing, any help would be great!

Does Hendsoldt still make scopes? If they do and cared that you're making a replica, it'd be nice if they'd let this little project slide seeing as it's nigh impossible to find the Dialyt.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Interesting question.

I personally don't think there is any issue for a couple or reasons:

The items are very old so any patents and such are no problem.
We are not representing these as "genuine" items.
These are non functional replica model "parts"
We are not "selling" the items.

I could be wrong and would appreciate anyone with knowledge to chime in keeping in mind the above.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Agreed. And since I'm guessing this would be a limited run available only to members of the RPF, we'd probably just float by.

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Should have something to show shortly!

Just waiting on the parts...

I am having an entire set made which includes over 20 separate parts for the assemblies and all need to be adjusted and fitted.

Can't wait!

Re: ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion

Just an update.

Parts are being cut. Had to wait on some material.

Saw some progress. Should be soon now.

I will post pics as soon as I get them!
