ANH Hero DL-44 Discussion - Three ANH Greeblies Found

Note the "patch" bump. This small area seems raised. The shape changes in different angles.
Also where the gouges are on the stunt gun.

The highlight would not change shape so dramatically if just a light paint.

Maybe the blaster was painted, maybe not, but I don't think paint alone can account for the undulations of the highlights and shadows.

I would imaging if the glue caused a huge removal of the bluing down to bare metal and left the gun looking weird in those areas they would have reblued or panted them over. Easy enough.

I'm thinking the glue residue was pretty "clear" like epoxy and not VERY noticeable to the naked eye. As we know, the disk looks like a mirror silver in some shots and barely visible in others. Lighting and reflection make it very noticeable. Likely the dried glue surface was very smooth and "shiny reflective" under flash or direct light, but was clear enough to see the blue through and underneath. It probably wasn't until after filming they noticed (if ever) that these areas were reflecting. If they painted over the glued area it would hide the disc completely IMO.

Just a thought.

It would be so fantastic if there was a 'missing link' photo of this prop. Like after the Pre-Pro Bapty photos, but before the Pre-Pro 'Test-Fire' photos..

..there's gotta be something we're missing/not publicly available photo-wise between those points in the life of this prop, there's gotta be some photos in an archive or collection somewhere that can solve all of our questions.. I just wish that we could all see them.

Just looking at that I wonder if the mystery disk and Pats pitch were one strange greeblie connected at either end.. ?
Could be.

I imagined a while ago that the two glue areas were connected somehow. Maybe similar to the way the MerrSonn's were made?

As the C96 fires- the upper receiver moves to the rear about 1/4 inch as the gun cycles. If the two parts were connected when the prop guys first built it, the first time it was test fired it would all break off.
I think that is why Ford looks like this. Surprised at the first blank fire.

As Carson said above, I'll bet there are other images of this day out with ford that shows the blaster BEFORE he fires it. I know there are others in this series that show him in poses but all in the same condition.

If it wasn't Ford who tested it , someone did and found out the hard way that the upper needs to move and busted the parts off.

The only thing is that a use of the half tom-tit cylinder on the upper (in the Merr Sonn configuration) overlaps with whatever greeblie the mystery disc would have been, so I can't imagine that's how the 'original' configuration would have gone. And if the gun would have been disassembled to be painted (as opposed to being painted in one solid chunk), then the prop guys must have known that the slide would move back.

I ran the last image through some software I have to try and parse out any possible colours in the C96, though the results weren't spectacular.

Nice colorizing.

I don't know how the parts were or what they were tho the phono disc seems a good candidate for the disc since the sizes match.

The rail piece... who knows. Maybe a coil wire din connector? Would sit nicely on the rail.

All just spitballing conjecture.

Would be great is Carson's deepthroat connection would dig up some images that could shed some light on the subject! ; )

And a big thanks to Carson and his contact for all the wonderful new clear images!

THANKS!

Deepthroat..

Perfect. And thank you deadbolt for sharing as you didn’t have to. kpax not sure if they would reuse the reade parts as they are already on the Hero? But this is what I came up with “for fun”. This MS pulley does come in different sizes though doesn’t it?

Just for fun, I put my Mitchell parts on my blaster.

The pulley was too small, as we already knew, but the stylus brush base seated itself within my painted circle perfectly...

Above: for the greeblie that was on the mystery disc, the pulleys are a bit too small

Below: sorry, I forgot you asked this. It seems to me they heated and flattened a piece of the tomtit cylinders against the gun. One gun has slightly melted fins. I've done this to reshape plastic greeblies on custom blasters, I don't think they cut a smaller piece, looks to be cut in half and squashed!
A couple things for fun as well..

First how do people see this greeblie cut? Directly in half?? It looks like it’s close to the Mauser itself and it wouldn’t be able to sit that close if it was simply cut directly in two. I cut one in half and the other is 0.05 beyond half I believe..View attachment 1537735

I appreciate you getting back. It doesn’t look that melted on the edges though? I’ve done the same myself over the years. Plus there is to much plastic for it to be squashed I believe. ?

I don't think they would have heated it to the point of melting, just to soften but the size relationship in this image seems to show they are not flattened or they would be wider.

With regards to the MS side greeblies I’m wondering if they were simply cut in half or if they where cut a little beyond half? They seem to sit very close to the Mauser itself. Closer than they would if they were simply cut half it looks like. I have some of my parts on order where I cut them, if I remember correctly about .050 inch beyond half. In hand it will tell a better story I believe. I post my findings here when they arrive..

Thanks! I'd be very interested to see the results. This is why I had those ideas.
1) This has happened to me when I left the hairdryer on a bit too long on model kit parts

2) The smaller ends seems to hug the side of the gun very closely, as opposed to a cross-section of a perfect circle, if that makes sense?

I can see that for sure as a possibility. It certainly looks the way one does when burnt. That’s similar to how I do my HSG. I take a lighter to one of the edges..

I dug up some of my photos. Here I was trying to see if/how much I should cut. I designed up the part of the Mauser it rests on and assembled it all for viewing. If you examine the MS it looks to sit closer to the Mauser itself like what’s pictured on the bottom right below..
