Possibility for part U4? IF anyone has better pics of this section pre screws and would like to share either publicly or privately...:)

I asked this before in another thread. Never got a definitive answer, there may not be one, ; ) Does anyone know if the maintenance pits in the mandibles are directly over one another. Or are they offset. Just the sort of nitpicky thing that triggers my OCD. There's no way to see the top and bottom at the same time, without a mirror, but that's my jam, lol.

bwayne64, your OCD serves you well...

They may or may not be "directly" over each other, but they are NOT in identical locations top to bottom or left to right. They are all slightly offset, and you learn this the hard way if you cut your circles first, instead of deriving your circle placement from first doing greeblies on sidewalls, and then doing armour-coating notched-Plastruct sheeting on top as you work your way "in" to the circle location. If it looks right, then the exact dimensional location is less significant than the parts-to-the-whole relationship of maintenance pit to the rest of the mandible surface.

So I would say, all said, that they are "roughly" over each other, but not "directly." That level of geometric perfection was only achieved/faked by the Bandai kit versions of this thing, which they achieved only through CAD design and tweaking. THAT said, they are "over each other" enough that you can't make any one maintenance pit so deep that it exceeds the opposite side's maintenance pit depth, and that fact alone "may or may not" be a factor in why some pit depths are so significantly different from other pit depths -- in other words, the pit depth may "not" have been derived from max greeblie height, but instead derived from opposite side pit depth, and secondarily greeblies were found/modified to fit a new/lower pit depth on the opposite side. I can't say defnitively this is what happened, but it is a distinct possibility.

On my build the side wall height was the most critical. Thanks to those before me who advised that number. The pontoon bridge fit perfectly into the gap set between the top and lower skin.

This is an inside dimension at the wall edge as the disc top and bottom airfoils slope to it. Unless pit floor plate construction is too thick or wall depth is too great, the math works without interference. My pits readily slid in place back and forth to match the location shown by the 3” mandible holes thanks to Andre’s excellent drawings.

Note the geometry of the many bottom and top piping chase runs to and from the pits help confirm pit circle location in the mandible surface. None of my pits seemed to be directly over each other as mentioned by SK above.

Thanks guys. I figured it wouldn't be easy, ; ) Is anything on this beast. I may have to up my dosage, when I start building for real, lol.

Bwayne64,
I still take my anti-depression meds at 79 due to original business stress and now for other reasons during remaining retirement. The Falcon has been a pleasure even as the completion punch list work trivia continues. No doubt that medication helps with happiness..

Yeah I can relate. I rattle when I walk from all the pills. Mostly for heart related issues. Building anything for me is stress relieving overall. But there are moments, lol. Painting is my bugaboo. Don't enjoy that part at all.

Has anyone else had issues over at kitbash with images only half loading or getting the content can load error? I don't know what's going on today as I changed nothing, Wondering if it's just me.
