Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

Finally, something we can all agree on.
If you hated them period then I have no answer. I wasn't in the "Lucas raped my childhood" camp so I generally liked them. I just know that I was bored with TFA and not those movies.
I agree, TFA was just flat-out tiresome and boring. Far be it from me to be the one to praise the prequels, but at least they were new stories, with new environments, new ships, etc. Some of the new stuff was bad, but some of it was cool. The movies held my interest, even if I was critical of them in a number of ways. At least they felt like new movies. TFA felt like a poorly-made copy of ANH, and while watching it I couldn't help but feel like I'd seen the film about 50 times already--which not coincidentally is the approximate number of times I've seen ANH.

Twenty times in its first two weeks when it came out in my neighborhood in June of '77 Then 10 more times during the remainder of the summer. That's 30.
Then perhaps 5 more times in the years leading up to ESB. That's 35.
And since then, I've probably only watched it, from start to finish, another 15 times. I try not to over-expose myself to the film.
Having said all this, I have seen various portions of ANH over and over and over again, as part of my Chewbacca research..
But yeah, I'd say watching ANH from start to finish, has happened 50 times. No more than 60, I'd wager.

ps~Btw, I took 10 years off from watching ESB, from about '85 to '95, to see what it would be like to watch it after such a long break. It was amazing! So much of it felt new! Almost new. But fresh, is maybe a better word. Very, very cool experience watching it after all that time. Especially given that I'd only seen the film about 10 times prior to that hiatus.

Now I LOVE the OT. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the OT. And I rank ANH my 2nd favorite within the Star Wars movies. However, ANH is easily the slowest and most boring Star Wars movie there is. If anything TFA was too action-packed and fast... but it's definitely not boring.

I'm on board with ya! I'll always have SICK nostalgia for ANH... half my childhood was sitting on the couch with a bowl of macaroni on a TV tray watching the TV recorded version of Star Wars (commercials poorly edited out)
But after my 5th viewing of TFA (each on under differing circumstances to judge it on different levels) I gotta give it to TFA over ANH for entertainment.
ESB is still best, but I may have to place them in order as:

Luke on the Muppet show

Staring at my box of Threepi-O's cereal (sp?)

The Phantom Menace.
Anyways, TFA is awesome. In no other movie did I have a feelings moment like when Rey grabbed that saber and the them kicked in. Worth it for that alone.
Oh and seeing my Star Wars hating kid with her eyes all teary saying "I LOVED IT!" when it was over.

I definitely liked TPM more than AOTC, but those two movies are right at the bottom of my list.
ANH will always be my favorite too. It's where it all started and I just love the first Death Star environment and the Stormtroopers. I can just put ANH on my Tv and just do stuff around the house while it's on in the background. Same with all the OT movies I guess. I rarely watch the PT though.

I wouldn't even go that far. I'd go OT, Prequels, some of the really good SW books (despite not being canon), the TIE Fighter game, KOTOR game, and THEN TFA.
Phantom Menace has specific annoyances, but it's probably the most well-put-together of all the prequels. It feels like a whole movie with decent pacing and no odd jumps & dives in quality from one scene or FX shot to the next.
I remember the other two prequels being very good at one moment and bad the next. Just when you were starting to get wrapped up in it from a strong scene, a bad effect or cheesy line would kill all the dramatic tension that had been building. It was particularly true with #3 as I recall.

Spaceballs doesn't hold up well at all, probably the worst Mel Brooks film. It would have been much funnier if it were written by a fan of Star Wars. I would rank The Robot Chicken SW specials above all the prequels. All the prequels have for me is Christopher Lee and lightsaber wielding Yoda.
