Am I REALLY the only one disappointed with TFA?

My 12yo. nephew and I finally saw the new Star Wars and it was mediocre. I wouldn't say it was good, but I wouldn't say it was awful. I didn't say anything after it was over and my nephew said "They just recycled a bunch of stuff from the first Star Wars!" Too bad they got the original cast back and that's the best that they could come up with.

Finn and Rey show some promise as characters. I don't want to hear about Anakin's fall being too quick when Rey gained the Force and dueling abilities within a day or so. I thought the whole thing with R2 was lame, just taking him out of the show for BB8. I also almost expected a prince to have to kiss R2 to wake him up. That was just really dumb. I also thought it was odd that they didn't have Chewie comfort Leia after they landed from the Starkiller planet. Oh and apparently Han doesn't get any funeral. Qui-Gon got a funeral in the Prequels... Ren is generally lame, throwing his temper tantrums. His ship is also really lame. The ending with Luke was just awful. I wanted him to say "Who the hell are you?" Wouldn't it have made more sense for Chewie to come say hi with Rey?! Maybe if they get over their fear of anything new they might be able to salvage this trilogy. Say what you will about Lucas, but he did movies with all new stories and content.

Overall (and before I even saw it...) the movie felt like Disney gave them a directive to stick to what works in ANH. Don't do anything like the Prequels at all, don't do anything new, just do ANH in different clothing. I was surprised the one Imperial even mentioned clones.

BTW, where Luke was at the end, was that supposed to be the first Jedi Temple he was searching for? I hope he's not there yet because if so that was just lazy not creating a cool temple, just a bunch of stacked rocks on an island. If it is, it seems JJ did what he's done before and repurposed a location instead of creating a set that looks cool (Star Trek engine room anyone?).

That's so they can bring him back and explain that Kylo Ren missed all of his vital organs, and that when he fell off of the bridge he survived because he landed on a soft cloud of optimism and puppy farts.

I forgot to add the worst offender of the entire movie. Kylo Ren going all Matrix and stopping a blaster bolt in midair. Again I don't want to hear Prequel complainers saying the Jedi were too much like super heroes if you liked TFA. My nephew whispered "That's so dumb!" when that happened. They should have had him absorb it into his hand to connect him to Vader.

I find it hilarious that you complain they borrowed too much from the previous films only to say that they should have done it like it was in Empire in regards to Kylo stopping the blaster bolt.

I think what is going to be interesting is seeing how the force has evolved over time and how new discoveries in the ongoing mystical force can manipulate things and people.

To me it just sounds like a lot of people here not open to the force doing new things.

Don't forget... the way the force had been utilized for many years in the ways of the Jedi were by a set of structured ideals and rules. By only using the force for what it was intended for probably limited the range at which the force was potentially capable beyond its intent of the Jedi.

What interests me about Kylo Ren is that he is not a Jedi and has obviously found ways to use the force in other ways and on the topic of the frozen blaster beam, I thought that was one of the coolest things I saw at the beginning personally. Yeah, Vader didn't do it, but who's to say he couldn't, just maybe didn't think to use it in that way.

I like to think of the force as truly mysterious and mystical. If Palpatine was potentially able to use it to create life (?) And live a long time, why couldn't it be used to stop a blaster beam like that? It's essentially using it to slow down time such in the way of aging, why not physical?

I don't know... I really love this movie and those that don't that's fine. Everyone's entitled to like or dislike whatever they want.

I love that Star Wars does the impossible and can't wait to see the next chapter.

I'd say that makes Kylo weaker...Vader could absorb, Kylo had to let the bolt continue on its path. Plus this dude was probably as whiny as some of these kids people are bringing into the theater complaining about the movie. So they should be able to relate to Ren :lol

The pausing the laser blast shows that Kylo is all tricks & showy,....like a footballer who can do rainbow kicks doesn't mean he's George Best or Pele

The thing that felt the weirdest to me about the blaster bolt was that Kylo Ren held it in place for such a long time while he was doing other things.

That is not so much about different abilities with The Force , but about being able to concentrate on multiple tasks at once.
Every time in the past when we have seen Force users doing telekinesis, we have seen it require intense concentration.

Also, the bolt lasted for some time - I would have expected it to lose its energy and dissolve.

I mean, the real military hardly ever halts a project once they've started on it, Hell, the future Army soldier deal is always in the works, they just keep scrapping the old designs after they've already been built. But for this film they tried to make it appear as though it had been built long ago.

Doesn't sound that casual to me.

Every movie of James Bond he risks life and limb to save the country, and his girlfriend, yet by the next film the girlfriend is gone, and the country is in danger again.

Does every new Bond undo the happy ending of the previous one?

I get the impression starkiller base is carved out of an existing planet rather than made so long ago that trees have grown on it.

Anakin was whiny in...well, all of the Prequel Trilogy movies...and Luke was whiny in A New Hope. Apparently, it's common among Skywalker men when they're young.

Here's something for the haters who are complaining about Kylo and the blaster bolt,Rey's sudden use of the force and all that:this movie is called "The Force Awakens" now the only two groups who have used the force up to now are the Jedi and the Sith,ever consider that the Jedi with all the Madicloinan or however you spell it,and all the other high ideals they had maybe just didn't know diddly about it? and the Sith are maybe just using one small side of it?

Maybe it IS some mystical force that nobody really understands and maybe it's awake and peed off about how the people have been using it and now it's focusing on two individuals who aren't beholden to ANY organization or creed? we don't know if Kylo and Snoke are Sith,they may not be at all and are just using the force as they see fit to do as what they see right,Rey is going to get training with Luke but maybe Luke has seen how screwed up things are and is going to go in his own direction? or maybe Rey is just going to be too powerful for him to do much with but give her a few pointers on how to control the ability she has?

If you think about the title of the film it seems maybe this is going to be about the force itself,and maybe it's not happy.

Think about the flow of the last six films-first three the Jedi fall,next three the Sith fall,now? who's left?? pretty much nobody,Luke isn't a true Jedi and he got his pee-pee slapped when he tried to restart the Jedi so methinks something is up,something wants a clean slate and,excuse the pun,new order.
