Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 10.5.11 DONE ! PICS GALORE ! )

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.13.11)

Ultimately I went with chris's idea for the adjustable strap and hard mount handle for better control and comfort..... While still retaining the movie feel of course lol

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.13.11)

Mr Spider, when you say it becomes a strap, does that mean the forearm strap becomes unfastened from what appears to be button fasteners on the angled sections prior to the buckle section.

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.13.11)

OFF TOPIC:

I wished we had a universal park with HP in it.... it's always in America D: But okay, then I will travel half the globe to go there :D

OT:

Nice work! Isn't it hard to work with or do you have all the tools you need close?

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.13.11)

@ Deacon : the strap us a double strap, so I just pull one side to lengthen it so i can toss it on my shoulder, like Chris's.

I had tried a system like what you are suggesting using earth magnets....... Sadly that didn't go as well as I wanted it to lol

@ Kialna: honestly thus is my first time working with metal in this aspect bending , cutting , shaping ..... It's all very new to me . If I knew what the right tools are I would tell you lol, I just kind of do what works. Doing something new I have never done before helps me grow as a builder though.... So no complaints from me lol

And you're doing an awesome job! I enjoy doing new things and finding out how the new processes and ways to work with different materials. Metal is fun to work with, and each metal has it's issues.

I have the luck to have a workshop at school with a metal, wood and plastics/resin shop. I kind of need it though, as I'm studying industrial design engineering. But as seeing you're working at home, I congratulate you with your great work thusfar!

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.17.11)

Looking good!

I'm actually doing the WWII officer suit where Cap pics up the blank shield for the first time. :) Don't even need a star for that, and the back bracket is a whole lot simpler! :D

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.17.11)

No paint today... rain saw to that, but I did finish the rivet details, and got the shield prepped for painting

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.17.11)

looking sweet man. I have discovered in painting mine that there is a easy less messy way and hopefully i catch you in time. I noticed the edge of you masking is rough is some spots which will lead to not so good painted lines. What i did was masked the center ring as you did but then with a pen/sharpie i traced the contour on top of the tape, a little pressure and just followed the symmetry. The with a sharp scalpel/exact o it followed the drawn line apposed to the machined and the shadows can make it tricky. % extra minutes but so worth it. Diggin you progress!!!

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.17.11)

thanks, yeah, not too late lol. there are some rough spots, I did plan to go over those... I'm picky about my paint lol. thanks for the tips, I'll give em a shot to tighten up the masking job

Re: Alu-mini-um Captain America shield build (update 09.17.11)

I do something similar to Captainrossi... I just tape over the grooves, and use a Mr. Spatula to press and roll the tape into the grooves prior to cutting the tape with the razor. Looking forward to seeing the paint! Yeah, it was raining here too.

ok..... now to finish getting in shape and working on the suit for Megacon/ Dragon con.

Nice! Use a rubber mallet and tap those star ends down so they are flush :) May want to lay a strip of leather over it to just as an extra precaution to not scratch the aluminum.
