Almost Human

I finally got around to watching the 1st episode on Hulu last night. It was good enough to watch the second one sometime in the next couple of days.

I found the "retirement" scene in "Skin" oddly touching. The next episode was kinda meh. Onward…

It occurred to me that using the same actors as different MXes is a stroke of minor genius. They hire a small group of actors and then they can kill them and bring them back as often as they want. There's no additional costuming cost (just swap number panels) and the actors get a steady gig.

Overall I'm enjoying the show. I find it's a bit too "formula" at times. That whole start a big story arc then fill all the episodes between the premiere and the finale with "working a case" filler thing....same thing that Bones, Supernatural, early seasons of Fringe and shows like that do.

I love the John/Dorian partnership. The interactions between the two seems really natural and I've found myself laughing out loud a few times at their comedic moments.

The rest of the PD seems really "hollow" at this point...so it's too early for me to judge those characters I suppose. I don't mind Rudy as the tech/chemist "Q" of the PD. The chief is pretty well done. The other cops leave me lukewarm at this point.

Overall I'll keep watching. I laugh when KU puts on the Dredd face and shoots things.

Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled too early....but this is FOX after all...

What would be cool is to have Brent Spiner do a one-off appearance as a 'retired' "001 replicant" (or whatever they are called) model that was re-awakened and wreaking havok on the city.

I liked the episode before and the last one, but you're right, they really should get back to the plotline where to find the guys that shredded John's leg and what his former squeeze had to do with…

I'm still watching (haven't watched last night's ep yet) but it's really starting to feel like "Martial Law," with technology replacing the kung fu. Or maybe that's just because of the shiny police station. Last night as I watched "Blood Brothers," I started wondering if you could just take some old Quinn Martin scripts, add some technology, and have something equivalent to the writing on this show. I think they do the "exploring what it means to be human" aspect really well, but otherwise, yeah, it feels formulaic.

One thing really bothered me about this ep: In the future, it will be totally OK for a witness on the stand to just say everything she wants to say (aka info dump) before the judge says anything? That felt like ignorant and/or sloppy writing.

I do wish they would touch on the original plot line again. It's been a while. I'm still enjoying the show. Love all the nods to Blade Runner. I still need one of those umbrellas! Sometimes Urban is channelling Dredd, but I like that.

I just have a feeling a major plot twist is coming.

Yeah, there was that shot in the pilot (and in the opening credits) showing a man working on an headless android's holographic head projection (holo mask?). It's clearly a female, but who is it? Stahl? The ex-girlfriend? Why a holographic head when you can just make a convincing solid one? Or put a mask over it.

Hey guys.... just wanted to post and thank the member here that went in and corrected the IMFDB. I know I stated the info was incorrect and after sharing with you all the correct info.... one of you went and updated it. Thank you. Glad everyone is enjoying the show.

OK, remember the "reactivating" female android in the evidence room at the end of the first episode? Well, she was just a head. So perhaps that's her body being worked on--but why the holo stuff? Anyway, yeah. Let's pay that off.

And one more thing: I love that the music is by The Crystal Method. That is all.

That is not all.

That head? Did she look familiar?

It's Gina Carano!

Badass android MMA. I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl.

Great episode tonight, but even better was the preview for next week featuring Gina Carano pictured above. About time they got back to these early episode storylines!

Great episode last night, one of the best so far.

What does everyone think about the episodes being aired in a different order?

Almost Human Boss On Episode Order Controversy - Seriable

Will character development be negatively impacted? Will important overarching plot points get lost, quite literally, in transmission? Are serial viewers receiving everything we need to follow the show as it was intended?

Order aired vs intended order:

1.01 Pilot (#1.01)
1.02 “Skin”- (#1.05)
1.03 “Are You Receiving” – (#1.06)
1.04 “The Bends” – (#1.07)
1.05 “Blood Brothers” – (#1.08)
1.06 “Arrhythmia” – (#1.03)
1.07 “Simon Says” – (#1.10)
1.08 “You Are Here” – (#1.02)
1.09 “Unbound” – (#1.09)
1.10 “Perception” – (#1.04)

I still feel like it's missing "something"- I can't put my finger on it, but the show still hasn't quite grasped my complete attention. I've seen every episode in it's entirety and while each episode is fun and has cool tech and whatnot, I still feel like I'm losing interest very slowly.
