I would be interested to see, in a few years, the lawsuit and the Industry Experts debating in front of a judge the various "tells" that make those great fakes:p:rolleyes::devil:

For me, that all but solidifies its status as a faaaaaake.

If Heritage was correct, a midgrade sold for nearly $200k, and the seller was so confident and certain this is the real McCoy, they'd not have lowered it. One might even argue, it started low to begin with.

It's still a heady amount ("That's Hedley!") which I doubt will deter those kind of bidders.

On the plus side, a simple Google search gives numerous pages, including this one, for any due diligence such a bidder may want to engage in.

I say, let it be, and see what happens. We've done well by stating the tells that say this is not likely a hero, and my saying even if the expert's opinion was that it was production made, he did NOT prove screen used even though they showed screen used phaser photos in the auction.

Let's not say anything that would be taken wrong at the end.

I'd replace our existing grand piano with this in a heartbeat. I bet this hits half of a million easy. The last confirmed piano John Lennon publicly played? That alone is reason enough.

As a casual Trek fan (by RPF standards), this thread caught my eye. Curiosity drew me in, the insane drama from Mr model "trainwreck and derail the thread" kept me reading and laughing!
Along the way I found myself getting more interested in the phasers, the research that was done over the years and the painstaking details put into replicas. It's an impressive design and more detailed than I would have expected for a TV show at the time.
robn1 your build is amazing! So is your patience when dealing with wildly egocentric individuals. ;)

I'm really curious how the auction will go now. After seeing the auction house post screen grabs of OTHER phasers mixed in with the item photos, I wouldn't buy anything from them. That's at the least misleading and at worst fraud. It's too bad because there are a couple music industry items that are in my price range but I don't have the confidence to purchase from them at this point.

The expert never confirmed SCREEN USED on the phaser, so yes, showing pictures of screen used phasers in the auction is not acceptable.

It's interesting to me that, as of this morning, there are no bids. Not sure if the $100k starting bid is a non-starter, or that these auctions don't start to get action until they've been up for awhile, or....

I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops.

It's hard to comprehend the existence of a mystery 5th phaser without any documentation when the studio inventory says there were 4 hero phasers, Wah says he redressed 4 hero phasers and 4 hero phasers can be identified on screen through the unique features of each. None of these are the auction phaser; what would be your conclusion?

My conclusion is that all our ranting doesn't change that what you just said is really the ultimate unavoidable truth. I don't think we dissuaded people from bidding......they're just showing COMMON SENSE.
