I'm starting to wonder about the look of this thing, at least from what they have shown us so far. I will be probably be disappointed, but I'm really hoping to see the aftermath of the nuclear blast on the colony and the surrounding area. Plenty of the colony seems to be no worse for the wear than when we saw it in Aliens, at least from the inside.
I'm hoping for smoldering ruins of the colony, and I'm not seeing it yet. I didn't see it in the multiplayer levels at E3 either. I wonder if the story pulls out some contrived way to make the colony survive fairly intact. I remember seeing a level somewhere in which you could see the derelict wreck in the background, so I wonder if they might have invented portions of the colony outside the kill zone of the blast, conveniently near the derelict (but still not far enough away that Newt's family still had to drive there to discover it and check it out).
I really want all those marines to roll up on an ashen wasteland littered with burnt and melted debris with little more than twisted burned-out frameworks of the exposed colony buildings. I want burned remainders of alien skeletons laying about. Maybe there are portions of the colony underneath all that intact, but scorched and broken. The remaining sub-levels are powerless dungeon mazes where, mostly for the worst, there were survivors.
This game has been in development forever now (what, like 7 years?!), and I would hope it would look a little more polished. The graphics look a bit dated for 2013 standards. I doubt it will be everything I wish it could be, but I'm sure it will be fun.
I still haven't seen a definitive Wii U release date (or confirmation that it will be shipping with the other versions), but I will probably go for that version. The Wii U touchpad controller could work really well for this, and Gearbox did say they expected it to be the best version.
