Aliens: Colonial Marines

Part of me is feeling like the writers do want to ignore Alien3, but at the same time they can't because if they're going to make a true sequel to ALIENS, they would have to bring Ripley back. They probably didn't want to do this since Ripley would be too expensive to put in the game for Sigourney Weaver's likeness and voice.

If they ignored Alien3, they wouldn't have to deal with the plot point of the Sulaco coming back to LV-426 after passing Fury 161. I would have settled with Ripley, Hicks, Newt and Bishop being missing and figuring out what happened.

Unfortunately, the mention of Fury 161 tells us that they included Alien 3 into the timeline., so it's a good bet that they've decided to keep the timeline of things. Plus, I remember reading an interview that the developers stated that this game takes place well after the events of Alien 3 and that Ripley wouldn't be involved in the story as she was dead at this part of the timeline (which means that Hicks has to be dead as well).

Than who's under the hood? Worst case, it's a different NPC all together that's using the same bloody skin. Cheap skates. Hicks can't get a freaking break.

Well, like I said, it's most likely Hudson, who also got acid burns on his left arm (which we've seen bandaged up in the film). Like I said, the holes in the shirt shows similarities and differences in the pictures. But one of the big differences I noticed was the fact that the tears on the sleeve on Hicks' shirt is different from the one with the guy in the hood.

But then again, the company may be lying just to catch the players by surprise and they may have brought Hicks back (and find some way to explain why he was classified as dead). Even James Cameron agreed that it was a mistake killing off Newt and Hicks, the only two people that Ripley had left to care about, at the start of Alien 3, and maybe the gaming company agrees with him.

This game has been in development forever now (what, like 7 years?!), and I would hope it would look a little more polished. The graphics look a bit dated for 2013 standards. I doubt it will be everything I wish it could be, but I'm sure it will be fun.

4-5 years actually. Got announced way before they actually started working on it. And there was a pause in the development as well.

Are they completely ignoring Alien 3 and resurrection then?

No and yes since Resurrection takes place hundreds of years after A3. Where as A:CM takes place 17 weeks after A3.

I worry that the gameplay may be disappointing in single player, but we'll see.

Yeah, I've been really excited for this game for a while, but every time I see clips of gameplay, I get concerned. There's something "unpolished" about everything I see in-game. I'm still hoping it turns out to be awesome.

Well, like I said, it's most likely Hudson.

I really hope it isn't Hudson, but I can't imagine it being anyone else. Hudson without the voice of Bill Paxton just isn't Hudson, unless they've found someone who can do a spot-on impression.

What makes you think Bill Paxton wouldn't do the voice of Hudson? I mean, what's he got going on right now? They got Michael Beihn to come back for Hicks for probably what may be a minute worth of video game screen time. So, what's keeping Paxton from coming back to do Hudson again?

Last I read, a Sega rep "confirmed" that Paxton would not be voicing Hudson. Also, according to his IMDb page, he has quite a bit going on. Then again, so does Biehn, so I dunno what Paxton's excuse is. Maybe he just wasn't interested?

What I find strange is that a few weeks after Sega "confirmed" that Paxton wouldn't be reprising his role as Hudson, they posted the following image to their Twitter.

So who knows. I'd love to have Paxton return and voice Hudson, but I'm not counting on it.

Odd indeed. :confused

Who knows, maybe he is coming back for the voice, but Sega wants to surprise the fans (kinda like how Telltale Games first revealed the RPF's AJ as the voice for Marty McFly and then, when it came to the final episode reveal, they revealed that Michael J. Fox came back to voice another McFly character for their Back to the Future game). Plus, it seems odd that they would get his likeness and not get his voice (heck, we don't know how long the character is going to appear if it is Hudson. For all we know the character, if it is indeed one of the characters from Aliens, then that character may be making a one minute guest appearance like Hicks has). Plus, with Gamestop exclusive, you're getting Hicks, Hudson, Apone and Drake for the multiplayer aspects (which means that they may have their own individual voice sounds anyway. As to if it is the voices of the original actors, hard to say).

I can't help but wonder what James Cameron thinks of the game, if he had an opinion of it.

I'd like to sit down and watch a playthrough of the game once it comes out and thumb through a copy of the Colonial Marines Technical Manual, just to see where and when they decide to do their own thing with the designs.

Im getting worried that my hopes are a tad too high for this game. God, I'm excited for this. I need this not to suck.

That has been my problem with every Aliens game released since AvP on the Jaguar. No matter how good it is, it can't live up to the expectations I have built up over the development process. I keep buying them though...

Best game of 2013 thats right I am calling it!
LOL

I don't think so, I'm afraid. I've still yet to see any indication that this will be anything other than another by-the-numbers FPS game.

I'll get it eventually, I'm sure.. I'm too much a fan of the franchise not to. But highly doubtful I'll get it at launch.

This was taken at NY Comic Con. Paxton was there doing a panel for a movie and also Sega was there promoting the game. They might have just met up for fun to take this pic. You can also see Paxton wearing his Comic Con pass. Would be awesome if his voiced was used in the game though.
