Alien Enviromental Suit Progress .Youtube links added last post.

Hello guys - Sorry I snapped before, I was having a bad day, I was way out of line.

Seriously, this thread is incredible, some of the best work I have ever seen. I had no right to be rude to you, I just wasn't myself and lashed out for no reason related to you guys or the work you're doing.

Again, my apologies.
Walter

Thank you, I appreciate your understanding. Just been under some stress with the family and job and it spilled over.

Won't happen again.

OK now that I am back on my meds :)

I seriously am thinking about tackling one of these suits on my own. My sewing skills are pretty OK, so at least the soft parts I am not too worried about, although the helmet is another story entirely.

I've been pondering how to proceed on the suit, I figure since the Kane, Dallas, Ripley and Lambert (?) suits have already been done, I am going to shoot for a Brett suit since I am a huge Harry Dean fan.

So of course the question is, what would Brett's suit look like? I don't believe we ever saw one onscreen, so I am sailing off into uncharted waters on this one. After pondering it for a while, I got thinking that since Brett is a mechanic or engineer of some sort, maybe his suit would be a bit more utilitarian than the red, yellow, blue or white we've seen already. So I decided to go with a combination of grays and silvers for Brett's suit, to give it a more workmanlike feel.

Not sure I can replicate the incredible detail that you guys have done on your suits, but I am going to try to do my best to match what detail I can. Regardless, it's going to stretch my sewing sikills to the limit and beyond, and there is a good chance I will end up with a bunch of crapola as a result. But we shall see.

I want to thank the folks working on this thread for sharing their work, and to apologize again for my outburst before. Anyway, I will start a new thread so as not to clutter this one, but I want to say thanks again guys, you really have fired my imagination and rekindled my love of Alien. Can't wait to hit the sewing machine and see what comes out!!! I will start a new thread once I have some pix to post. Wish me luck!

One day I somehow ended up on a site with early Air Force pressure suits. The first two ever made look kinda familiar.

The big helmet allows a standard pilots helmet inside.

The flexi-joints and lacing allow for different size people to use the same suit.

You people literally have no idea how amazing these suits are.

Steve; thank you, I received the soft parts today safe and sound, and they are absolutely incredible. I've been a writer most of my adult life, choosing the right word to evoke the response I want in the reader and I'm not kidding you I don't have the words to describe the job you all have done. Yes, you and Richie have done an EXACT job getting the hard parts done, but Danita has blown you guys out of the water. The selection of fabrics, the dye job, the attention to every detail! THE HERRINGBONE IN THE LACES! There's stuff in this costume I just didn't know was there.

Anyway; "thanks" seems like too small a word for you all. Thank you for letting me enjoy the boyhood dream come true with you guys. Saying your work belongs enshrined in a museum seems like museums have to up their games to be worthy of your hard work.

That was Steves idea. We had no idea what to do ounce we were on stage outside of just stand there and sweat!! It did get a pretty good responce!

It was about midnight by that time and we were exhausted!

Seeing this thing up close was pretty amazing man. I'm completely blown away by the detail you put in to it. Great job!

Thanks.
We are so proud of how this all came together. As Richie and I made some cool armor.... it was nothing compaired to the stitch work required for the costume under suit. Thanks Danita!

In the sub-zero weather we had here in Oklahoma a week back that suit would have been the perfect thing to wear. Trust me you would not get cold.:thumbsup

Loved every min. wearing it at DragonCon though.

Wow I read this whole thing at work yesterday.

Best thread ever.

Being a costumer myself for 25 years, anyone can cast resin, glue, sand and paint, but when it comes down to it, the wives, moms and grandmoms are truly the unsung heroes. God bless them all.

I wore this thing outside a couple weeks ago to get some video for Dennis Lowes next video. It was about 10 degrees F, snowing like crazy and I was sweating inside it.

Looked pretty cool tho at night with the snow falling around the lights etc.

Richie, hi. Firstly excellent work on your suit. I was asked to have a look at thus forum after I had done an AMA on reddit. First thing I spotted was this excellent thread on your spacesuit - had to get in touch.

Anyway, this is probably far too late as you have already done an excellent job but a couple of years back I had the pleasure of doing a full re-ferb on one of the original Alien spacesuits. Apparently the suit was stored in a costume designers garage for many years and I was asked to help re-furbish the suit to be put in a display case and placed in Ridley Scotts office.

If you are interested I took a fair few photos of the refurbishment along the way. The suit was as far as I could tell, complete and was one of the suits worn by the child actors to trick a large sense of scale into some of the sets.

If you can reccomend a good place to post the images I will happily pass them on.
